Cultivarium is a Focused Research Organization (FRO) with a mission to accelerate the adoption of novel microorganisms for biotechnology. We are looking for someone who can contribute both individually and as part of a team to create tangible solutions for a ‘moonshot’ project. You will be part of a close-knit, driven team of scientists and engineers that are building technological infrastructure for the cultivation of non-model microorganisms, to open new avenues for science, technology, medicine, and agriculture.

 

We are seeking an Software Engineer Intern to help build web tools for quickly and iteratively prototyping user interfaces aimed at a scientific audience. This position offers a unique, hands-on opportunity for an intern to apply software engineering skills to quickly construct and test prototypes with users in a dynamic biotech environment. The length of the internship is 3 months with the possibility of extension.


You will create impact by leveraging your software development skills and strong intuition to build and ship minimum viable products (MVPs). Your focus will be on understanding diverse product requirements and accompanying data structures to develop novel tools that will accelerate the research process for scientists both inside and outside of the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with project managers and engineers to architect and build software according to product specifications.
  • Develop intuitive prototypes of GUIs for experimentalists.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and testable code, following best practices.
  • Summarize and present your work to supervisor and team members.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.


Basic Qualifications
  • Graduated or pursuing a Master’s degree in computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, or a related field.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
  • Proficiency with UNIX command-line tools, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, TypeScript, and React.
  • Some familiarity with modern cloud-based application deployment platforms (e.g Heroku, Netlify, Firebase).
  • An interest in AI and its application to web development.
  • Ability to translate technical requirements into functional software specifications.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and adapt quickly to evolving needs.
  • Skilled in creative problem-solving, with keen attention to detail and a collaborative approach.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively, communicate clearly with colleagues, and consistently meet deadlines.


Advance Qualifications
  • Familiarity with cloud environments such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
