What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fashion Design & Sewing Intern position at Converted Closet?
Fashion Design & Sewing Intern
Converted Closet is a fast-growing fashion startup on a mission to reimagine the way we dress—one converted closet at a time. We take vintage, unworn, and forgotten garments and transform them into stunning high-fashion pieces. We’re looking for a proactive, detail-loving intern to join our team in our New York City studio.
If you're passionate about sustainable fashion, love to sew, and are ready to get hands-on in the upcycling process, this is your chance to learn directly from a leading refashion designer. No two days are the same, so we need someone who's flexible, enthusiastic, and ready to roll up their sleeves—sometimes literally.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the upcycling design and planning process
- Apply advanced sewing and dressmaking skills on in-progress projects
- Run local errands, especially to the Garment District
- Assist with whatever creative or logistical needs arise—we love a can-do attitude!
Qualifications:
- Advanced sewing skills (bonus points for pattern making)
- Passion for sustainable fashion
- Strong organization and communication abilities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic studio environment
- A collaborative spirit, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team
What You'll Gain:
- Insider knowledge of cutting-edge upcycling techniques
- Firsthand experience working with a leading refashion designer
- The opportunity to contribute directly to unique, sustainability-driven garments
- A portfolio of pieces created in collaboration with the Converted Closet team
Details:
- Location: New York City (in-person)
- Start: ASAP preferred
- Time Commitment: Part-time or full-time opportunities available
To Apply:
Send your resume and either a cover letter or a sample of your work that you’re most excited about (& tell us why!). Tell us what draws you to Converted Closet and why you’d be a great fit!
Note: This is an unpaid internship, but trust us—what you’ll gain in creativity, skills, and behind-the-seams experience is priceless. Ideal for students or emerging designers eager to stitch their way into the sustainable fashion world. Portfolio-worthy experiences await!
