Ministry Function
The Barista supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope through the important function of providing excellence in service to all team members and guests of the Hope Supply Co.™ Coffee Shop & Store. The Barista will always maintain the standards of Convoy’s Guest of Honor principle.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Professionally operates the espresso/brewing machines, point-of-sale system, and other equipment.
- Consistently crafts and delivers a variety of quality beverages — e.g., espresso drinks, blended drinks, and teas — and baked goods according to shop standards.
- Prepares and serves food and drinks to the quality standards of both the shop and the health department.
- Maintains detailed knowledge of all Hope Supply Co. Coffee Shop drink menus and procedures, food items, and day-to-day operations of the store and the point-of-sale system.
- Assists customers in selecting and purchasing retail and menu offerings by drawing on knowledge of menu items and products and clearly communicating offerings.
- Provides exceptional, friendly customer service to all team members and guests based on Convoy of Hope’s Guest of Honor principle.
- Cultivates a sense of family by fostering customer relationships, including using customers’ names and recalling the preferences of frequent customers.
- Handles monetary transactions, accurately conducts sale transactions, and maintains a balanced sales drawer.
- Maintains a professional, clean, and safe environment by cleaning and sanitizing all equipment, utensils, dishes, and work/service areas based on health department standards.
- Ensures all equipment properly functions, checking temperatures in all equipment as required.
- Stocks supplies and takes inventory to provide list of needed items to Hospitality & Guest Relations Director.
- Fulfills all other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- More than one year of experience as a barista is required.
- Displays excellent social, verbal, written, and organizational skills.
- Exudes a positive attitude, honesty, integrity, and a professional and friendly demeanor.
- Possesses or can obtain ServSafe Food Handler certification within 90 days of employment, following all safe food handling procedures and sanitation practices.
- Exhibits the ability to serve customers quickly, efficiently, and kindly.
- Can stand for extended periods of time and can regularly bend, stoop, and lift/move up to 30 pounds.
- Attends and actively participates in Convoy of Hope At Home Week meetings and activities as a required responsibility to the organization and fellow team members.
- Serves as an advocate for the ministry, striving to nurture, broaden, and develop financial and other resource opportunities to support and expand organizational and program ministry.
- Positively represents the ministry of Convoy of Hope, including its mission statement and core values, to all outside constituencies.
- As a Christian organization, Convoy of Hope believes it is critical that each staff member embraces the organization’s religious purposes for which it exists and not only agrees with its Statement of Faith but demonstrates it in their lives on an ongoing basis.
