Position Summary:

The Director of Perioperative Services (D-PS) is responsible for overall functions of all clinical operations within the Perioperative units, including assigned specific programs and initiatives.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) in nursing required.
  • Master’s degree in nursing is preferred, or within 2 years of hire.

Experience

  • Five (5) years of Perioperative Services Management required, including Pre-op, Pacu, Intraop, Sterile Processing and Pre-admission testing in a 7 (or more) OR facility.
  • Experience in managing Endoscopy, ASC and Cardiac Cath Lab preferred.
  • Experience managing outpatient departments preferred.
  • Knowledge of nursing theory and practice required.
  • Knowledge of program development and administration required.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • Current South Carolina (or compact state) licensure as RN (SCLLR) in good standing required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • CNOR certification required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight regarding nursing clinical practice including developing infrastructure and implementing effectiveness measures.
  • Provide administrative direction to management staff within areas of responsibility including supporting plan development, priority- setting, decision-making, and professional development as well as hiring and performance management.
  • Other responsibilities may include but are not limited to; coordination of schedules, task assignments, and allocation of resources to ensure conformance with specified objectives and policies.
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving budgetary recommendations and preparing variance analyses of budgeted revenues and expenses.
  • Lead change regarding quality of care and operational enhancements, including implementation and communication and will work with management and staff to promote hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provides leadership of multiple departments including but not limited to Pre-Admission testing, Operating Room, Pre-op, Post Recovery Room for procedural areas, and Sterile Processing.
  • Oversees operations of the perioperative services department including financial and staff management for the unit, and develops, assesses and amends all policies related to perioperative services with assistance and input from other unit Directors.
  • Develop community partnerships, contractual agreements and healthcare alliances that foster collaboration and alignment, and partner with the physician leaders on development and management of access to care for all surgical services and practices and across all sites.
  • Performs functions as noted above but is ready and willing to assist the team in direct nursing services as will be needed in times of high volume as well as in rare circumstances cross over to another unit as well as serve as Nursing Supervisor when requested.
  • Greet all patients and their accompanying family members when applicable and provide exemplary customer service.
  • Work effectively and collaboratively with colleagues, physicians, department heads, and executive leadership.
  • Effectively utilize strong organizational skills.
  • Consistently display effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills and Microsoft products required.
  • Regularly exercise independent judgement and remain calm and professional in all situations required.
