Position Summary:
The Sterile Supply Supervisor (SSS) oversees daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), ensuring the efficient and effective reprocessing, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment, while also supervising staff and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma required.
- Associate’s Degree in Surgical Technology desired.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technician Program required.
Experience
- Prior experience as a Surgical Technician in a hospital setting required.
- Previous supervision/management experience in Sterile Processing preferred.
Licensure/Certification/Registration
- Central Service/SPD Training Course certification preferred.
- Certified by the National Board of Surgical Technology required.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Greet all patients and their accompanying family members when applicable and provide exemplary customer service.
- Prepare case carts and trays for decontamination and load them into washer and/or sterilizer as prescribed by procedure.
- Perform the operation of the index washers, cart washers, ultrasonic cleaners as well as manually cleaning instruments and equipment as prescribed by established standards and procedures.
- Disassemble, clean, assemble and test patient care equipment for proper functioning; route cleaned equipment to appropriate holding areas.
- Use chemicals in the appropriate fashion taking into consideration the intended use of the chemical as well as the chemical's function; knowledge of the appropriate PPE is also necessary.
- Sort dirty linen, trash and BFI and dispose of them according to established procedure.
- Use PPE in the appropriate fashion in all areas.
- Assure linen for packs are inspected, folded, and assembled for sterilization in the prescribed manner according to documented policies and procedures.
- Consistently display effective verbal communication skills.
- Proficient understanding and use of technology/PC skills required.
- Delegate task and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
- Work effectively and collaboratively with coworkers, nursing staff, physicians, and department heads.
- Effectively utilize strong organization and time management skills.
- Exercise independent judgment in emergency situations.
- Completes other duties as assigned by department leadership.
