Job Summary
Under the direction of Highway Engineer III, IV, V, or Senior Project Engineer, performs a variety of engineering tasks in one or more areas of planning, design, or construction of transportation projects. Assumes primary responsibility over assigned projects and tasks. Coordinates with project team, government agencies, utility companies, residents, businesses, industry professionals, and external vendors to achieve project goals. May perform other duties as assigned.

Light Work
Light Work involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job/occupation is rated Light Work when it requires: (1) walking or standing to a significant degree; (2) sitting most of the time while pushing or pulling arm or leg controls; or (3) working at a production rate pace while constantly pushing or pulling materials even though the weight of the materials is negligible.
The County has a hybrid work environment which allows employees telecommuting and flexible scheduling options.

- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Construction or Electrical Engineering SUPPLEMENTED WITH one (1) year of full-time work experience in civil, construction or electrical engineering is required.
- OR-
- Acceptance of the applicant for the Illinois Engineer Intern Examination with documented evidence from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation at time of application SUPPLEMENTED WITH one (1) year of full-time work experience in civil, construction or electrical engineering is required.
- OR-
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering is required.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
- Work experience with transportation projects is preferred.
