SQL Database Administrator
Job Summary
A SQL Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimizing SQL Server databases, ensuring their performance, security, and availability by performing tasks like database configuration, monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, implementing backup strategies, optimization, and schema design; often requiring 24 / 7 availability for critical production systems.
- Responsible for the day-to-day administration of the database infrastructure, including maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
- Manage high-volume MS SQL database instances, ensuring high availability and implementing Always On Availability Groups.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts for proactive system monitoring, debugging, code optimization, and automating routine tasks.
- Administer database storage engines and oversee master-slave replication processes to ensure efficient performance and data integrity.
- Responsible for database backup and restore functions including scheduled tests of DR availability, including knowledge of MS SQL restoration and availability technologies such as Clustering, Replication and especially Always-On.
- Builds and reports on SQL environment performance and availability metrics and takes appropriate actions to implement best practices and optimize performance.
- Provides technical support and troubleshooting for database issues and responds to requests and incidents.
- Monitors system health and performance to ensure high availability and security. MS SQL production database level performance tuning.
- Ensures that data is protected from unauthorized access and complies with data privacy regulations.
- Refines and automates regular processes and tracks issues and changes.
- Assist in the technical analysis and design for current and future projects.
- Shares technical expertise and provides mentorship and cross-training to other team members and assist developers with query tuning.
- Participates in SQL code-reviews for the application teams to enforce SQL coding standards.
- Developing and implementing processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to get to the root of an issue quickly.
- Documents on the company's database environment.
- Providing 24 / 7 support for critical production systems.
