Cook Inlet Region, Inc. (CIRI) is offering a 12-month IT apprenticeship program opportunity within its IT department. In partnership with AVTEC, the successful candidate will engage in both formal curriculum, CompTIA A and Network certifications and on the job training. The apprentice will be a full-time regular CIRI employee for the duration of the apprenticeship contingent on meeting performance criteria to be retained in the program and by CIRI (at-will employment). The goal of the program is for the apprentice to graduate with the competencies needed to become a network or desktop specialist. Upon graduation, the candidate is welcome to apply for jobs in CIRI for which they qualify or other jobs on the open market.
The application period for internal candidates will be open from January 31st through February 14th.

Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities)
- Participate in and graduate AVTEC’s IT apprentice curriculum within a 12-month period.
- Engage in on-the-job training, specifically:
- Serve as a first point of contact for internal customers seeking technical assistance via phone, email, and messaging.
- Provide technical support to end users on a variety of computer, software, printer, web, and mobile device-related issues.
- Investigate user problems and identify their source; determine possible solutions; discuss testing and implementation of solutions with the department manager.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of systems and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
- Follow-up on outstanding incidents and escalations to ensure timely and effective resolution.
- Respond to and record events and problems along with their resolution in the helpdesk ticketing system.
- Assist with providing refresher training to staff on systems features as appropriate.
- Assist with hardware/software upgrades to existing computer equipment.
- Report significant and/or widespread issues to supervisor for escalation as appropriate.
- Provide supervisor with assigned reports in a timely, accurate manner.
- Perform cross-training with other Information Technology staff.
- Perform other duties as appropriate and assigned.

- Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
- Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
- Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 20 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Strong interest in developing a career in the IT field.
- Ability to pass a background check.
