Job Description
This position serves as EGLE's Communication Director responsible for developing and implementing the department’s overall communication strategy. This position oversees the Office of Public Information and coordinates closely with the Environmental Support Division and various other divisions in the department to assure consistent, professional, and relevant communication is provided both externally and internally.
Key duties of the Communications Director include:
- In coordination with the Director and various other department representatives, develop and implement the department’s communication strategy.
- Oversee the Office of Public Information providing timely media responses.
- Coordinate with the Environmental Support Division to develop and deliver communication materials through various approaches, including the publications, public meetings, videos, social media, and other approaches.
- Develop and coordinate development of high-level department talking points and statements.
- Evaluate and modify communications processes throughout the department as needed.
- Prepare staff for media or other public speaking events.
- Represent the department at various external events.
- Analyze communication trends and advise the Executive Office on emerging communication issues.
- Implement approaches to proactively communicate the positive actions the department is taking on various issues.
- Complete managerial tasks, including but not limited to developing performance plans, completing performance reviews, overseeing daily work, and approving leave requests and timesheets.

Home to 21% of the world’s fresh surface water and boasting some of the globe’s most spectacular natural resources, Michigan is at the center of the critical conversations on how we safeguard our state's environment while supporting the economic growth and development. The Communications Director will be charged with leading a communication strategy to further the department’s media, digital, and additional external communications goals.
