The Vessel Manager is a salaried position responsible for the material condition and readiness, as well as the overall safe, efficient, and compliant operation of two large aquaculture treatment vessels and our fleet of saltwater service vessels.
Requirements: A minimum of 10 years' experience in managing ship structural and mechanical system repair and modification is required. Strong demonstrated leadership ability in shipyard and operational settings is required. Well-rounded knowledge and experience in operation and repair of diesel engines, refrigeration systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems is also required. Initiative, fortitude, business minded, hands-on manager ideal. USCG engineer license preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Read, accurately interpret, maintain, and implement US Coast Guard regulations, with assistance from the Director of Marine Safety and Compliance.
- This role involved ensuring compliance with maritime safety protocols, including maintaining adequate crew qualifications and sizes, and ensuring all necessary equipment is onboard all vessels.
- Maintain all vessels in accordance with published maintenance standards and operating procedures and maintain documentation on each vessel’s material condition relative to established standards.
- Responsible for daily vessel management, including active coordination with customers, terminals, and vendors regarding vessel operations.
- Develop annual repair and maintenance plans with accurate budget targets.
- Hold vessel crews accountable for completing required preventive maintenance and proper operating procedures.
- Direct tasking dock side repair operation with constantly changing priorities and work levels, including execution of emergency repair plans to optimize vessel operations.
- Develop repair specifications for commercial bids.
- Execute planned work using contracted and in house repair resources both dockside and at commercial dry dock facilities.
- Execute and track weekly purchasing to monitor and forecast spending performance versus budget targets.
- Manage a diesel engine overhaul program and associated inventory of spares.
- Ensure vessel crews complete all tasks safely and maintain appropriate vessel records.
- Ensure vessel crews report all hazards, accidents, injuries, or environmental concerns immediately.
- Monitor weather conditions to support navigational decisions and respond to vessel emergencies.
- Participate in incident investigations and implement corrective actions as needed.
