What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Budtender position at Cookies Maywood?
We are hiring a Lead Budtender for our dispensary. The Lead Budtender is a key leadership role, responsible for overseeing daily floor operations, opening and closing the store, managing cash handling, leading the sales team, and ensuring all operational tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
In addition to leadership responsibilities, the Lead Budtender is expected to perform all standard budtending duties and actively work the sales floor during busy periods or whenever needed. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of cannabis products and compliance.
Responsibilities:
- Open and close the store, following all security and cash handling procedures.
- Set up budtenders with their cash tills and assign daily tasks.
- Manage break and lunch schedules for the team to ensure proper floor coverage.
- Operate the front desk, supporting customer check-in and compliance procedures.
- Process inventory orders and assist with receiving and restocking deliveries.
- Conduct regular inventory counts and maintain accurate stock records.
- Perform all standard budtending duties, including customer service, sales, and product education.
- Work the sales floor during busy periods, staffing shortages, or as needed to support the team.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting and assisting customers, offering detailed product knowledge, and creating a positive shopping experience.
- Educate customers on cannabis strains, consumption methods, effects, and safety guidelines.
- Support sales goals through cross-selling, upselling, and promoting current promotions.
- Handle customer complaints professionally and escalate when necessary.
- Maintain visual merchandising standards and keep the store clean and organized.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and state regulations.
- Complete ongoing training in cannabis science and product knowledge.
- Lead by example and provide coaching and support to budtenders during shifts.
Schedule:
This is a part-time position with approximately 25 hours per week.
Must have open availability on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for morning and evening shifts between 6:45 AM and 10:15 PM.
At times, you may also be required to work outside of these hours, but advance notice will be provided. Shift swaps are permitted with prior approval. Time-off requests require at least two weeks’ notice and are subject to approval based on business needs. Schedules are published two weeks in advance.
Required Skills:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- At least one year of cannabis retail experience
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with cannabis POS systems
- Experience using METRC Track and Trace
- Experience with timeclocking software
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and/or Google Suite
