GENERAL SUMMARY
The Pharmacy Tech will perform duties in the pharmacy department including duties that do not require a licensed professional including processing and delivering medication; ordering and issuing products; and receiving and ordering supplies. The Pharmacy Tech may prepare sterile products and will perform various administrative duties as necessary.
PHARMACY HOURS: Monday through Friday; 8AM to 6PM, with occasional weekend hours for special projects.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist Pharmacist(s) with dispensing activities; assist with inventory control; maintain adequate drug supplies necessary to support daily operations.
2. Maintain the daily operations within the department to include answering phones; assisting individuals at the pharmacy window/counter; entering charges for medication, receiving and stocking drug orders; and maintaining cleanliness of assigned area. This may include occasionally lifting 30 lbs.
3. Repackage bulk medication into unit dose containers: ensuring the correct drug name, strength, lot number, expiration date, and barcode are labeled; ensure the Pharmacist verifies the unit dose medication prior to placing in stock.
4. Ensure that medications delivered and distributed in a timely manner; observe established guidelines; ensure medications are loaded properly in the Omnicell unit.
5. Prepare sterile products as necessary following proper protocols.
6. Perform other duties as assigned by Pharmacy Supervisor or Pharmacy Manager.
Position Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; knowledge of supply and equipment ordering and inventory control; written and verbal communication skills; acuity with numbers.
Certifications:
1. Currently registered as a pharmacy technician by the Alabama Board of Pharmacy (ALBOP); active registration will be required prior to the date of hire.
2. Currently certified as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT or ExCPT) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
Preferred:
1. At least one (1 ) year of Retail Pharmacy experience.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role may require lifting up to 50 lbs.
