JOB DESCRIPTION
Working closely with the members of Digital & Emerging Media (DEM), the Junior Developer will focus on maintaining Cooper Hewitt’s current website (WordPress) and help to ensure the success of the upcoming redesign of Cooper Hewitt’s collection site, digital collections, and digital table.
The contractor will be working with internal stakeholders to make revisions to the WordPress site (cooperhewit.org) and other related digital assets.
Secondly, this role will work as part of a collaborative team during the development period of the rebuild of Cooper Hewitt’s Collection site, providing support and guidance for establishing the website and the associated new in-gallery digital table application.
Reports to the Director of Cross-Platform Content.
MAJOR DUTIES
- Design, develop, and maintain the technical infrastructure and user interfaces of Cooper Hewitt’s digital products. The digital products are built with WordPress, PHP and JavaScript.
- Establish and manage the servers for Cooper Hewitt’s digital applications with the comprehensive knowledges of Linux, Windows servers, and AWS
- Create innovative and novel ways of engaging with the museum’s contents both online and on interactive devices within the museum gallery.
- Build working prototypes in code for staff to better understand larger projects / concepts.
- Iterate and deploy updates in response to user research and feedback.
- Promote the museum’s digital products to the public or relevant communities via publication of Labs / Dev blog, open-source code, research papers, presentations at conferences and workshops
- Provide guidance for user experience fir the new Collection site and the new Table application.
- Provide guidance for the external contractors so the new Collection site and Table application can be established to accommodate Cooper Hewitt and Smithsonian’s particular conditions, which includes following the requirements of cyber security and privacy from Smithsonian Institution.
- Support and ensure the documentation for operating the new Collection site and the Table application is comprehensive and clear.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
HOURS : 40 hours per week (9 : 30 am to 5 : 30 pm)
REMOTE WORK : Ad Hoc telework as needed
