Who We Are
The Cooperative Children’s Center was created in 1972 as an alternative to the established for-profit early childcare and preschool programs available at the time. We started as a group of parents who understood that young children learn naturally in an environment offering a choice of activities created with children’s needs in mind. We offer a high quality independent program that includes free play, games, self-help, social skills, creative expression, and field trips.

At our school, we provide a safe and creative environment that fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth of our children. Our curriculum centers on instilling respect for self and for others, and on developing a joy of learning through play.

Role Overview:
The Cooperative Children’s Center is looking for a Program Supervisor who will be the core individual who coordinates the Cooperative’s teaching staff, supports the director and strengthens relationships with families and staff. The Program Supervisor oversees day-to-day functions of the program, ensuring the Cooperative’s mission is evident in the daily function of the Cooperative.

Qualifications:
The person selected for this position must:
  • Be twenty-one (21) years of age or older
  • Have a baccalaureate degree with 45 Early Childhood Education credits and/or a Washington State ECE certificate.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years experience as a lead teacher of children in any age group enrolled in any early learning center and have a passion for working with young children.
  • Strong computer skills and be proficient with Google work products or MS Office (e.g., Word/Docs, Sheets/Excel)

This person must be comfortable in a leadership position, coordinating staff, and interacting with families. S/he must have a commitment to an anti-bias, developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum. S/he must be comfortable working with children ages 1-5 as this role has high in-classroom involvement.

A background working with national and state accreditation and licensing processes.

Roles and Responsibilities
Compliance:
Work in partnership with all regulatory bodies to ensure that the Co-op operates as a sound
business with strong administration, compliance and operations practices.
  • Ensure the Co-op complies with all regulations and requirements identified by , Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), King County Public Health, City of Seattle, and Early Achievers.
  • Update Health Policy, Emergency and Disaster Handbook as needed and be familiar with all emergency procedures.
  • Be responsible for maintaining and submitting paperwork with the WA Scholarship Program.
  • Update all contact and emergency information for staff and families.
  • Hold a current First Aid certificate, Bloodborne Pathogens/HIV training, CPR certificate, food handler’s permit within six weeks of hire.

Communication/Relationship Management:
Listen and communicate effectively with the Director, families, staff, Steering Committee and
community partners.
  • Develop positive relationships with staff, children and parents; communicate in an honest, straightforward manner; and encourage cooperation and trust building.
  • Represent the center in a professional manner to the prospective parents, visitors and the greater community.
  • Attend classroom parent meetings and provide staff support before, during and after the meetings.
  • Assist the teaching staff and parents in solving problems regarding individual children in conjunction with the Director.
  • Post all Co-op events, closures, communicable diseases, and the year-at-a-glance calendar for families to view.
  • Maintain online emailing lists for classrooms and general membership.

Program Development
Provide direction for future growth and development of the program in conjunction with the
Director.
  • Provide support to teaching staff in planning, implementing and monitoring developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Work with staff to develop goals and objectives for the program and individual children.
  • Ensure Early Achievers status and manage Early Achievers coaching.
  • Conduct observations of children or staff when necessary.
  • Supervise staff’s knowledge and use of assessment tools (e.g., Procare, Teaching Strategies) and provide support in maintaining regular documentation of the children’s development.
  • Update and maintain Employee and Parent Handbooks.
