What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Specialist (20-25 hrs a week) position at Cooperative Educational Services?
Summary
Under the guidance and supervision of the Regional Center for Early Learning Director the Family Support Specialist will perform all tasks required by the program/assignment. The Family Support Specialist will serve as a key resource for families, providing support and resources to strengthen family engagement and enhance children’s learning and development.
Duties
- Build and maintain strong and trusting relationships with families, children and staff in the RCEL community
- Support the process of recruiting, enrolling and orienting families to the RCEL community.
- Provide individualized support to families, including connecting families with relevant community resources.
- Share information resources with families related to child development and parenting to support families in achieving their goals for their child’s wellbeing.
- Facilitates the RCEL Family Advisory Board.
- Works in collaboration with the Director to manage program communications to families.
- Works in collaboration with staffto plan and implement program and classroom family engagement activities.
- Engages in family conferences as needed.
- Ensure that family engagement and support services are culturally sensitive, inclusive and equitable.
- Maintain a flexible schedule to meet the needs of families, including meeting with families in other locations, such as their homes.
- Work with teaching staff to meet the diverse needs of children.
- Gather input and feedback from families to inform program improvement and family engagement priorities.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information, performances and records as prescribed by law and in accordance with C.E.S. policies and procedures.
- Possesses a working knowledge of and follows both C.E.S. and program specific policies and procedures applicable to the assignment and areas of responsibility.
- Complies with all federal, state and agency regulations on conduct and ethical behavior.
- Engages in reflection and self-evaluation and seeks opportunities for professional growth.
- Performs other functions/responsibilities related to the unique needs of the job or program as assigned.
Requirements
- Candidates must have a BA in early childhood, human services, social work, or related field.
- A minimum of three years of experience working with families and children of preschool age.
