Independent Skills Center Coordinator
Job Summary:
This is a full time, 260 day position.
The Independent Skills Center Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Independent Skills Center Program. The ISC Coordinator plays a crucial role in providing operational and instructional support to contracted staff and ensuring quality services within the ISC program. This position assists in maintaining a positive learning environment for students by supporting staff in implementing district-approved instructional and behavioral practices, coordinating resources, and acting as a liaison between the district and school-based employees. The coordinator collaborates closely with the Director of Special Education to support program initiatives and align services with district standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Staff Support and Guidance:
- Provide direct support to ISC staff in the implementation of instructional and behavioral strategies.
- Assist staff in utilizing adaptive resources and materials to support student learning and engagement.
- Troubleshoot day-to-day challenges in the classroom environment and offer strategies to enhance staff performance and student outcomes.
- *Licensed and staff evaluations, depending on licensure.
- Documentation and Record-Keeping:
- Support staff in maintaining accurate records, including data collection for student progress, behavior logs, and other required documentation.
- Assist with the organization and preparation of documentation for IEP and BIP meetings, ensuring that all materials are properly formatted and available.
- Program Support and Communication:
- Serve as a point of contact for ISC staff to communicate program needs, challenges, and successes to the Director of Special Education.
- Facilitate communication between ISC staff and other school personnel to ensure smooth coordination of services and address any concerns.
- Training and Development Support:
- Assist in organizing training sessions and workshops for ISC staff on topics such as adaptive instructional strategies, behavior management, and data collection techniques.
- Support new staff onboarding by providing orientation materials, explaining district procedures, and helping with the understanding of ISC program expectations through a coaching model.
- Family and Student Engagement:
- Assist with preparing communication materials for families, such as newsletters, progress reports, or updates on student achievements.
- Support ISC staff in creating individualized visual supports and social stories to enhance student understanding and involvement in their learning.
- Behavioral Support and Implementation:
- Provide support in the development of visual aids, schedules, and reinforcement systems that align with student behavior goals and plans.
- Collaborate with ISC staff to ensure consistency in implementing behavior intervention strategies and positive reinforcement systems.
Qualifications:
- Properly endorsed Oregon Teaching License in Special Education and/or Administrative License
- 10 of teaching experience, preferably with experience in adaptive special education programming
- Experience as a teacher leader or coach preferred
- Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of instructional practices and a variety of classroom management strategies for students with disabilities
- Proficiency implementing and adapting educational interventions
- In-depth knowledge of data collection to inform instruction and planning
- High level of patience, emotional resilience, and the ability to stay calm and focused under pressure
- High level of knowledge of Special Education law and processes
- Knowledge of neuroscience and its implications on learning and development for students with disabilities
