General Statement of Position:
Under the general supervision of the Coös County Conservation District Supervisors this
position administers the County Conservation Program. Seeking to conserve and protect the
county’s natural resources through educational workshops, application of conservation practices
and soil capability information for land management.
The District Manager, is delegated the authority and responsibility necessary to carry out
assigned duties with attention to detail.
Administrative Outreach
- Update and maintain the conservation district website
- Prepare annual plan of work, annual report and newsletters
- Post meetings in monthly newsletters, and office website
- Provide outreach updates on the Conservation Districts Facebook page
- Create a monthly newsletter that showcases CCCD offerings and programs
- Send completed newsletter to UNH cooperative extension in Lancaster.
- Maintain phone and office visitor log and travel miles
- Schedules and attends all monthly District board meetings Maintain District files,
including financial records, treasurers report, annual budget and annual audit:
- Prepare annual financial report for State Conservation Committee
- Prepare monthly meeting agendas and minutes
Financial Records
- Maintain accurate and concise financial records for the conservation district
- Annually, submit financial binder to the conservation district auditor
- Submit yearly financial statements to the state conservation committee (SCC)
- Submit yearly budget proposal to the board in October

- Manage the District PayPal account for fundraisers and donations, and payments
Annual Report
- Create and deliver annual report to supervisors, county commissioners, delegation,
and county administrator
Professional Development
- Attend professional development opportunities
Maintain and Enhance existing Programs including:
- YouTube channel
- North Country Conservation Series Podcast
- Rental Equipment Program
- Promote Water Quality Efforts within our county by providing free water test kits
- Promote Soil Health Program and provide soil samples to landowners
- Field Days for K – 12 students
- Fall and Spring Fundraisers
- Presence at fairs, expos, workshops, and field days
- Host biannual erosion control workshop
- Coordinate activities at of District’s Native Plant Nursery
- UC CISMA
- Attend meetings, assist group grant writing
- Land Conservation Efforts. Direct landowners to partner organizations and land trusts
Technical Assistance
- Connect clients with appropriate contacts to gain resource assistance
- Provide websoil surveys
- Become proficient at soil productivity index (SPI)
Grant Writing
- Administer and seek out federal, state, and local grants
Local Working Groups
- Organize, coordinate and host local working group sessions with the NRCS District
Conservationist
Monitor Conservation Easements
- Two located in Dalton
Partners
- Attend meetings, including State Conservation Committee, New Hampshire Association of
Conservation Districts, Conservation District Employees Association, etc
NRCS/USDA
- Collaborate and provide support to USDA/NRCS in accordance with the MOU
Policies
- Adhere to County, USDA/NRCS and State Conservation Committee policies
Qualifications:
Associate or Bachelor Degree preferred with course work in: environmental education,
environmental science, natural resources, business management, nonprofit management, or
related field, have knowledge in agriculture, soils, forestry, wildlife and conservation practices.
- Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, independent
- Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with variety of organizations
- Demonstrated leadership in fundraising, and grant writing,
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, program development, and evaluation
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other software
- Valid Drivers License required
A candidate for this position should have a working knowledge of interdisciplinary techniques,
methods and principals used when working with soil and water conservation issues.
Knowledge of the following:
- The roles of Conservation Districts, NRCS, and the State Conservation Committee
regarding implementation of local, state and federal programs;
- Local, state and federal programs and laws that affect soil and water conservation;
- Basic financial management techniques and practices;
- Procedures for developing funding requests for local governments;
A candidate for this position should have the ability to deal effectively with various local, state,
and federal agencies at various levels to
- organize and plan work;
- effectively supervise subordinates;
- lead groups,
- work independently;
- evaluate programs dealing with soil and water conservation problems;
- manage the daily financial operations of the District.
Physical & Mental Requirements / Job Environment:
- Normal office duties and environment,
- 2/3 normal office setting, 1/3 work outside
- Frequent contact with the public; local conservation commissions, planning boards, road
agents, selectmen, and environmental organizations, including county personnel, state
and federal agencies.
- Contacts occur in person, through use of the telephone, computer and writing.
Supervision:
Employee adheres to Coös County Conservation District employee policies.
Serves under an all-volunteer Board of Supervisors appointed by the New Hampshire State
Conservation Committee. Receives specific work objectives from the Board to carry out
monthly. Performs regular work with a high degree of independence. Needs to observe and
follow federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, as well as policies of the board.
Work is reviewed by oral and written records at meetings of the board.

Pay: $26.52 - $28.98 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 28 per week
