What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housekeeping Aide position at Coos County Nursing Home?
PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION: The primary purpose of your job position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping Department in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility, and as may be directed by the Administrator, and/or the Environmental Services Manager, to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
QUALIFICATIONS: The Housekeeping personnel must be at least 18 years of age, or older, in good physical, mental and emotional health, and able and willing to perform heavy lifting and tedious physical chores inside, and when conditions warrant, outside the physical plant. Able to read and write in English with clarity sufficient to follow instructions, identify materials from their labels and understand their directions for use, and be able to make written reports when necessary. Completed at least the 8th grade of school. No formal experience is required for this job. On-the-job training is provided.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Work is light to heavy with considerable walking and standing.
2. Kneels and crouches in performing such cleaning functions as washing bathroom fixtures, etc.
3. Lifts and carries bed and bathroom linens. Must be able to lift 50# minimum.
4. Moves beds and furniture.
5. Reaches and handles, using hands and arms, when performing cleaning chores.
6. Visual acuity needed when cleaning, dusting, and polishing to make sure that work is being done correctly.
7. Hands are frequently in contact with water and cleaning solutions.
8. Exposure to blood/body fluids.
9. Work in all areas of the facility.
10. Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
11. Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel and visitors.
12. Is subject to call-back during emergency conditions (e.g., sprinkler head malfunction, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.)
13. May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
WORKING HOURS: 24 hours per week as assigned. Includes weekends and holidays.
RESPONSIBILITY: The housekeeping personnel are directly responsible to the Environmental Services Manager for the cleanliness of the physical plant and environment, including the fixtures, furniture and equipment, in a clean, safe, attractive, and operative state at all times.
DUTIES:
1. Dust furniture, light fixtures, lamps, window ledges, air conditioner units, etc. Use furniture polish on furniture once per week.
2. Washes furnishings and equipment.
3. Damp mops floors with special cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent spread of disease.
4. Empty and wash ashtrays.
5. Empty and change liners in all waste cans daily or when needed.
6. Clean and wash all basins, commodes, lavatories and fixtures.
7. Clean all chrome fixtures to avoid water marks.
8. Spot clean all walls.
9. Check vacant rooms daily to keep fresh, and keep furniture straight.
10. Pick up bottles, papers, etc. from floors, rooms, and put in proper place.
11. Clean and dust resident rooms daily.
12. Clean windows in lobby and main entrance daily. Dust furniture.
13. Dust, clean and vacuum administrative offices daily during week.
14. Vacuum lobby and waiting areas daily.
15. Clean equipment and work areas daily.
16. Follow cleaning schedules as outlined in Housekeeping Policies and procedures.
17. Replenish supplies of soap, towels, and other dispensable items.
18. Request assistance in moving furniture and in turning mattresses.
19. Assist porters and laundry aides when necessary, requested by proper authority.
20. Make resident beds.
21. Change light bulbs when necessary.
22. Clean elevators, walls, floors, tracks, etc.
23. Keep refrigerators, cupboards and counter tops in assigned areas clean at all times.
24. Change privacy curtains and draperies as scheduled and when necessary.
25. Other duties as directed by Supervisor or Administrator.
26. Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals, disinfectants, and solutions used for cleaning. Refer to manufacturer’s instructions when necessary.
27. Ensure that established infection control and universal precautions practices are maintained when performing housekeeping procedures.
28. Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel.
29. Participation in Committees as assigned.
