Junior Counselor (JC) Internship
Summary Description: Seasonal Position; Full & Part Time options available
Cope Environmental Center is a non-profit environmental education center in Centerville, Ind. Our mission is to promote the sustainable use of Earth’s resources through education, demonstration, and research. We educate children in our 130-acre outdoor classroom through interactive, hands-on sustainability and nature-based programming.
CEC’s 2023 Nature Summer Camp offers great opportunities for teens ages 14 – 17 years old who love nature, working with children and are ready for more of a leadership role. Applicants should wish to build their leadership skills and contribute to a fun, safe camp environment by being mature and appropriate role models.
Time Commitment: Junior Counselor work dates: June 5 – August 11, 2023.
Reports to: Summer Camp Counselor
Responsibilities: Following are the general areas of responsibility for the position. Details of responsibilities will be established as needed for specific projects by the Summer Camp Counselor in association with the
Program Director.
- Attend mandatory training sessions before camp begins, dates to be determined
- Assist Summer Camp Counselors in educational, fun and safe camp experiences for all CEC campers.
- Help provide supervision, lead games and activities, assist at lunchtime, maintain program spaces and mentor campers.
- Be an upbeat, energetic, and focused member of the staff team.
- Maintain a safe, warm, supportive, and fun environment for all campers.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of camp supplies and facilities.
Additional:
- This internship is 20 – 30 hours per week, June 5 – August 4
- Hourly compensation of $9.00 an hour
- Knowledge of conservation practices and sustainable stewardship practices is desirable.
- JC will gain valuable job experience, learn leadership skills, develop new friendships, stay active, and have fun!
