Summer Camp Counselor
Summary Description: Seasonal Position; Full & Part Time options available
Cope Environmental Center is a non-profit environmental education center in Centerville, IN. Our mission is to promote the sustainable use of Earth’s resources through education, demonstration, and research. We educate children in our 130-acre outdoor classroom through interactive, hands-on sustainability and nature-based programming.
Summer Camp Counselors gain the opportunity for personal and professional growth by joining our Camp team. The Camp staff team plans, prepares and runs environmental education lessons, free play, arts, and outdoor games for our campers ages 5-14.
Time Commitment: Counselor work dates: June 5 – August 11, 2023.
Reports to: The Program Director of the Cope Environmental Center
Gives Direct Supervision to: Camp Counselors supervise Junior Camp Counselors
Responsibilities: Following are the general areas of responsibility for the position. Details of responsibilities will be established as needed for specific projects by the Program Director in association with the Executive
Director.
- Attend a mandatory 4-day professional training (May 30- June 2).
- Follow approved lesson plans to implement quality activities for Campers.
- Manage day-to-day safety, wellness, and behaviors.
- Implement behavior management strategies.
- Be an upbeat, energetic, and focused member of the staff team.
- Daily positive interaction with parents; addressing concerns with Directors as needed.
- Maintain a safe, warm, supportive, and fun environment for all campers.
- Maintain order and cleanliness of camp supplies and facilities.
- Assign and oversee tasks of Junior Counselors.
Experience:
- Work experience with young children, preferably in a Camp setting
- Good communication skills, dependability, team mentality, and leadership abilities
- Education and/or training in education and natural resources is essential.
- Knowledge of conservation practices and sustainable stewardship practices is desirable.
- Preferred but not mandatory -CPR & First Aid Training

Compensation is based on experience. Hourly Range $11-$14
