At Copeland Veterinary Hospital , we are proud to be a leading 24-hour emergency veterinary clinic specializing in emergency care , critical care , and trauma management for pets requiring immediate and life-saving medical attention. Our team of skilled emergency veterinarians, licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs) , and veterinary support staff work collaboratively to deliver the best possible care to every animal that comes through our doors. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Overnight Veterinary Technician to join our emergency care team .
This is not an entry-level position, and we are seeking individuals with extensive experience in emergency veterinary medicine . Ideal candidates will have experience in critical care nursing , patient triage , surgical support , and life-saving interventions . The Overnight Veterinary Technician will be an integral part of our team, ensuring continuous monitoring and care for critically ill patients during overnight hours. We are looking for someone who thrives under pressure, has a strong background in emergency care, and is passionate about providing compassionate care to both animals and their families. Applicants without relevant experience will not be considered for this role.

Key Responsibilities
Emergency Care Support : Assist in triage , patient stabilization , and rapid assessment of critically ill or injured animals. You’ll be at the forefront of high-pressure, fast-paced situations, ensuring that our patients receive life-saving interventions when they need them most.Life-Saving Interventions : Provide critical care, including pain management , fluid therapy , intubation , CPR , and medication administration. You’ll follow established protocols to stabilize patients, assisting in emergency surgeries and interventions as needed.Critical Patient Monitoring : Continuously monitor and assess patients’ vital signs, responding quickly to any changes. You’ll work closely with the attending veterinarian to provide detailed updates and ensure optimal care for each patient.Advanced Emergency Procedures : Assist veterinarians in performing procedures such as fracture stabilization , laceration repairs , and wound care . Your expertise will be crucial in supporting life-saving surgeries and trauma interventions.Diagnostic Testing : Perform diagnostic tests, including radiographs (X-rays) , bloodwork , urinalysis , and other diagnostic procedures. Your timely, accurate results will aid in quick decision-making for treatment plans.Intravenous Catheter Placement : Place IV catheters for fluid therapy , blood draws , and emergency interventions. You’ll monitor and maintain catheter function to prevent complications.Sedated Procedure Assistance : Assist in sedated procedures , ensuring patient safety, comfort, and effective monitoring.Patient Recovery & Comfort : Ensure smooth recovery for hospitalized patients, providing ongoing pain management , hydration therapy , and monitoring to minimize stress and promote healing.Medication Administration : Administer medications (IV, SQ, IM, PO) as prescribed, ensuring precise and accurate delivery.Client Communication & Education : Communicate with pet owners to provide compassionate support and clear updates on their pet’s condition, treatment, and prognosis. Educate pet owners on preventative care , post-care instructions , and follow-up visits .Patient Care Logistics : Manage the flow of patients in the emergency department, coordinate discharges , and ensure timely updates in medical records.Team Collaboration : Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support staff to deliver the best possible care in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.Skills, Knowledge, and Expertise to be Successful
Experience : At least 2-3 years of veterinary technician experience in a clinical setting. Experience in emergency care, critical care, and trauma management is essential.Certification : LVT, RVT, or CVT certification is preferred, though equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.Technical Expertise : Proficient in anesthesia administration , venipuncture , IV catheter placement , surgical assistance , and patient monitoring .Emergency Care Knowledge : Experience handling high-acuity cases, trauma care , and urgent medical interventions is a major advantage.Medical Math Competency : Strong knowledge of medical mathematics , including medication dosages, fluid therapy, and anesthesia protocols.Excellent Communication Skills : The ability to clearly explain complex medical terminology and treatment plans to pet owners in an understandable and compassionate way.Team-Oriented : You’ll work closely with a diverse team, so a team-player mentality and a collaborative approach to patient care are key.Organizational Skills : Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment. You’ll manage multiple patients at once and ensure smooth workflow in the emergency department.Empathy & Compassion : A passion for animal welfare and the ability to remain calm and compassionate during difficult or emotionally charged situations.
