Pay Plan
This opportunity is non-exempt and on the Fire Department Step Plan FD3, 1-6. The full Step Plan Range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the grade. Salary determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity. Rates shown are based on 2912 hours.
Hiring Range: $30.91-$33.43- FD3, 1: $30.91 ($90,000)
- FD3, 2: $32.14 ($93,600)
- FD3, 3: $33.43 ($97,344)
- FD3, 4: $34.77 ($101,238)
- FD3, 5: $36.16 ($105,287)
- FD3, 6: $37.60 ($109,499)

Candidates may be considered if they are in the process of obtaining the required qualifications; however, all minimum qualifications must be met by the date of hire to remain eligible for employment.
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a good driving record and meet one of the following qualification pathways:
- Education Pathway:
- Associate degree or higher in a fire service-related field (e.g., Fire Science, Fire Protection Technology, Fire Engineering, Fire Administration, or similar).
- Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Inspector-Basic Certification.
- Firefighter Pathway:
- Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Basic Firefighter Certification.
- Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Inspector-Basic Certification.
- Law Enforcement Pathway:
- Current Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Basic Peace Officer Certification.
- Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Fire Inspector-Basic Certification.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge
- Fire and building codes and ordinances
- Fire protection system design (alarm, sprinkler, and various suppression systems)
- Fire service strategies and tactics
- Fire Department procedures
- General office equipment
- Proficiency in ESO software
- Proficiency with photography equipment used in fire investigations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
- Read and interpret construction plans, specifications, codes, and ordinances
- Perform hydraulic, area, and volume calculations related to fire codes and ordinances
- Maintain a Peace Officer License (if applicable), including annual firearms qualifications and defensive tactics training
- Manage time effectively and ensure projects adhere to applicable codes
- Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with co-workers and the public
