PRIMARY PURPOSE:
To coordinate the daily operations, programs, and functions affecting the safety, security and emergency preparedness of District campuses, facilities, students, staff, and visitors.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice/criminology preferred
Emergency Management or similar degree related to extensive school/safety administration field preferred, or a comparable amount of training and experience
High School diploma required
Former or currently Licensed Peace Officer or federal agency law enforcement
Professional certifications in a security related field preferred
Law enforcement leadership training from an accredited or nationally recognized organization certification preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
General knowledge of police work with an emphasis on the supervision of all aspects of a security service organization
Prior experience in law enforcement preferred
Knowledge of emergency operations planning
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Knowledge of health and safety programs and applicable laws
Knowledge of NIMS and FEMA
Strong public relations, organizational, and interpersonal skills
EXPERIENCE:
Background in law enforcement with experience with the School Resource Officer program, fire safety, emergency management or equivalent training preferred
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Build and coordinate relationships between district, police and fire departments as it relates to needs of our
students as identified by the district.
Foster and cultivate strong working relationships, to include community-based programs, between the
District and the community to ensure school safety is a shared responsibility, and to improve trust between
the District and the community.
Assist in the management of the SRO/SRD/Guardian Program.
Assist campus administration with traffic flow, patterns and traffic problems through and around their
campuses.
Assist in identifying and developing training options and/or improvement plans to ensure effective
operations and best practices in the area of safety and security management.
Coordinate and manage security coverage of district facilities and all athletic and special events including
working with Executive Director of Athletics and the Chief Communication Officer to ensure security
coverage for district events.
Assist in the coordination, development and management of all disaster and emergency planning, in
collaboration with appropriate district departments such as Facilities, Technology, Human Resources and
Health Services.
Assist and cooperate in the identification and prosecution of those committing criminal acts against district
students, staff or property.
Lead and provide training for the District preventative safety measures including the employee badge
system, campus/facility check-in procedures (Raptor), anonymous reporting (Stop-it), the door entry system
(Ring), district crisis communication system (handheld receivers), weather radios, etc.
Ability to serve as the District’s Emergency Management Coordinator.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that will ensure protection of all
district personnel and property and comply with Federal, State and Local laws regulations and ordinances,
to include best practices and industry standards.
Conduct required Safety & Security Audits and assist in the follow-up reporting to Board of Trustees and the
Texas Education Agency.
Ensure compliance with all drills and exercises required by law (e.g., evacuation) as well as those
mandated in the district’s emergency operations plans (e.g., lockdown, shelter, hold, reunification, etc.).
Serve as liaison with all safety and security inspectors, regulatory and enforcement agencies.
Provide communication and resolve conflict between district administration and enforcement agencies.
Responsible for providing security coverage for all board meetings and workshops.
Supervise, hire and maintain the crossing guards for the district.
Provide risk and threat assessments throughout the district, as needed.
Develop and implement preventative security programs and other safety programs throughout the district.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
Customer Care Skills
Provide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff and other
professionals at all times.
Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.
Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.
Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body
language, and an attitude of “going the extra mile” for others.

Supervisory Responsibilities
Assist in the supervision and direction of all security/police personnel as well as crossing guards for the district.

Working Conditions
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals. Two way radio, hand held metal detector, camera monitors, and video recording equipment
Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel; occasional statewide travel and out-of-state travel
