ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides safe, therapeutic and quality driven direct care to patients utilizing nursing processes and diagnosis in a timely manner, setting appropriate priorities and acting as patient advocate.
- Communicates appropriate patient care information to Endoscopy staff, post-operative staff and physicians regarding patient medical history, procedures, treatments, medications and patient responses as needed.
- Carries out physician orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. Completes clinical documentation accurately and concisely within the patient’s record.
- Maintains effective, respectful, and professional communication between staff, anesthesia providers, physicians and additional healthcare partners.
- Participates in improving Center’s clinical performance and patient satisfaction scores.
- Communicates and interacts with patients, families, physicians and peers in a positive and supportive manner.
- Maintains required professional licenses and certificates. Attends and participates in continuing education programs, communication groups, and staff meetings.
- Complies with cost containment practices by properly utilizing resources, caring for equipment and working efficiently as a team.
- Participates in quality assurance monitoring including infection prevention practices, proper medication administration, specimen handling and safe inject practices.
- Serves as preceptor and mentor to new or cross-trained staff members.
- Observes and complies with all health and safety precautions and participates in processes meeting or exceeding regulatory and accreditation guidelines.
- Participates in mandatory safety training, drills, risk management and other educational opportunities.
- Demonstrates ability and initiative to function as charge nurse in absence of Team Leader, when necessary
- Adheres to all Center policies regarding confidentiality of patient information including HIPAA guidelines, patient care and quality standards.
- Monitors, reports, and documents symptoms or changes in patient’s conditions, taking appropriate action in emergency situations.
- Safely administers medications to patients, monitoring for possible side effects or reactions.
- Directs and delegates endoscopy technicians in performing safe patient care within their scope of practice
- May assist in other areas of the Surgery Center as needed.
- Assists technician and is responsible for proper handling, labeling, recording and processing of specimens.
- Works effectively as a team, assisting and supporting co-workers when needed.
- Supports a culture of safety that encourages everyone to speak up to prevent errors.
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS and REQUIREMENTS
- Strong interpersonal skills to work positively with patients, families, physicians and professional peers.
- Has knowledge of and follows Universal Precautions and guidelines.
- Effective interpersonal skills including those required during stressful situations.
- One or more years of demonstrated Endoscopy experiences and skills preferred, with knowledge of accepted SGNA and State Department of Health standards. Excellent customer service skills; professional friendly attitude. Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, physicians, and staff. Detail oriented, ability to multi-task, and has strong organizational skills
- Must be tactful, discreet, and able to maintain confidentiality at all times

- Proficient in IV start skills, obtaining complete nursing assessments and health histories.
- Nursing assessment skills utilizing basic nursing theory.
- Knowledgeable of common medications and their relationship to anesthetics and the endoscopic process.
- Demonstrated effective critical thinking, problem solving and organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills; including use for trainings, electronic health records, email, timecards, occurrence reporting, etc.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current MI licensure
- ACLS certification required within one (1) year of employment.
- BLS certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Regularly required to use hands to control or feel objects, grasp, move or assemble objects.
- The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is frequently required to stand; sit, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, squat or crawl.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to talk or hear; read, write, understand and carry out directions
- Will serve in patient care including patient movement or lifting. Standing, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Pay: From $32.00 per hour
