ABOUT THE POSITION
The Financial Controller is a mid to senior level manager responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities of the company including Jos. A. Magnus & Co.™, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and strategic financial planning. This position will be key in managing financial operations, optimizing cash flow, and providing financial insights to support business growth. The Controller will also collaborate with department leaders to drive financial efficiency and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Oversee and manage the Financial Reporting and monthly close process of two sister companies with related activities and common management, ensuring the timely preparation of accurate periodic financial statements.
- Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast, identifying and explaining variances.
- Responsible for overseeing and maintaining the integrity of the Company’s ERP and other financial systems, and the accuracy of the General Ledger data and resulting financial statements.
- Supporting the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP
- Support the design and implementation of effective internal controls over financial reporting.
- Support the facilitation of timely audits and reviews with external auditors
- Supervising and directing the work of accounting staff
- Oversee and Review accounts payable and receivable processes as needed to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
- Oversee new credit card requests, and expense report reviews, and adjust accounts, as necessary.
- Monitor and manage cash flow, which involves pulling daily cash availability reports, setting up wires for approval, and ensuring sufficient funds for operations.
- Review weekly accounts receivable payments, reconcile sales data, and adjust cash projections accordingly.
- Generate and review item sales reports, resolve discrepancies, and conduct detailed financial reconciliations.
- Prepare and submit monthly borrowing base certificates, and bank reports, and coordinate bank examinations.
- Reconcile inventory, which includes managing monthly external inventory reports and conducting physical inventory counts.
- Assist with barrel transfers, moving inventory, and revaluing costs.
- Prepare and reconcile month-end sub-ledgers, journal entries, balance sheet accounts, and financial statements.
- Oversee payroll processing, review tax filings (income, sales, excise), and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Assist with risk management, including annual property and liability insurance renewals and necessary adjustments.
- Support strategic decision-making through financial modeling, scenario analysis, and budget preparation.
- Participate in board meeting preparations, ad-hoc financial analyses, and various reporting tasks.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration or equivalent experience required.
- CPA is preferred.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong operational background particularly in supply chain, inventory, and enterprise infrastructure.
- At least five years of finance experience is required.
- Hybrid schedule available, with up to 25% on-site in Holland, MI.
- Deep understanding of finance organization/function, particularly regarding framing.
- Highly collaborative with internal and external team members.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- An effective communicator, verbally and written.
- Self-motivated, disciplined, self-assured, performance-driven, and passionate.
- A keen eye and attention to detail.
- Flexibility in an environment of frequent change.
- Proficient in accounting software and financial systems, experience with Orchestrated Spirits or SAP is a plus.
- Experience working for a company related to consumer products is a plus.
