POSITION OVERVIEW

The Crisis Prevention and Intervention Specialist provides support during the cleanup of homeless encampments by assisting individuals experiencing homelessness, ensuring safety, and maintaining respectful interactions. This role also includes administrative responsibilities such as billing, timekeeping, and reporting. The ideal candidate will have experience in crisis intervention, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Crisis Prevention and Intervention :

  • Engage compassionately with individuals experiencing homelessness to de-escalate conflicts and maintain a safe environment during encampment cleanups.
  • Provide information about local resources, including housing, social services, and healthcare options.
  • Act as a mediator between cleanup teams, city representatives, law enforcement, and encampment residents to ensure smooth operations.
  • Observe and report safety concerns, behavioral risks, or potential conflicts to management or law enforcement when necessary.
  • Assess the houseless and staff to determine their needs.

Administrative Duties :

  • Process and maintain accurate records for employee timekeeping, ensuring compliance with payroll policies.
  • Assist in preparing and submitting billing documentation for city contracts, adhering to established timelines and accuracy standards.
  • Create and maintain detailed reports documenting cleanup activities, interactions, and service delivery outcomes.
  • Monitor budgets related to encampment cleanup operations and report discrepancies to management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Compliance and Documentation :

  • Ensure all cleanup activities comply with city contracts, local regulations, and company policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive data related to individuals served and operational details.
  • Document incidents and interventions clearly and concisely using the company form for record-keeping and reporting purposes.
  • Collaboration and Communication :

  • Work closely with cleanup crew members, city officials, law enforcement, and social service agencies.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to discuss challenges, share insights, and recommend process improvements.
  • Provide feedback on operations and recommend changes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Proficiency in de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for managing administrative tasks.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word) and familiarity with billing or timekeeping software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • REQUIRED & DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED required, associate or bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in crisis intervention, social services, or related work.
  • Previous administrative experience, including billing, timekeeping, or reporting, is highly desirable
  • Certification in crisis intervention or de-escalation techniques (e.g., CPI, Mental Health First Aid) is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • PHYSICAL, DRIVING, TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

    Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in outdoor environments, including encampment sites, with exposure to various weather conditions.
  • Capable of standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials or equipment up to 25 pounds.

  • Combination of fieldwork at homeless encampment sites and office-based administrative duties.
