In addition, as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired your duties will include:
- Collaborating as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide instructional strategies to assist students who are visually impaired
- Planning lessons and activities based on skill levels of students in caseload, using techniques and materials to enhance the student’s academic abilities
- Conducting orientation and mobility evaluations to identify students’ strengths and needs including the amount and frequency of services needed; providing instruction on orientation and mobility techniques and in the use of orientation and mobility materials and devices
- Providing support and consultation to parents, teachers and other school staff to assist with integrating orientation and mobility goals into classroom and home activities
- Collecting and maintaining data to document and evaluate students’ progress on an ongoing basis
- Adhering to agency guidelines and requirements concerning caseload management, record- keeping, and accountability
- Other relevant duties as assigned or required
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Pennsylvania certification to Teach the Visually Impaired
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain positive rapport with students and productive working relationships with parents, teachers and other staff
