Certified Medication Technician (PRN)

• Must have state-approved Medication Aide Course certification.
• Must demonstrate competency to perform medication administration in accordance with state regulations.
• Clarifies any order or treatment regimen believed to be inaccurate, ineffective or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed nurse (RN/LPN).
• Notifies the appropriate RN/LPN when making the decision not to administer medication or treatment.
• Knows the rationale for the effect of medications and treatments and correctly administers it.
• Accurately reports and documents the Resident's symptoms, responses and status.
• Monitors Residents who self-administer medication and report deviation from the plan of care to the licensed or registered nurse.
• Administers medication within 60 min. of scheduled time.
• Secures medication cart.
• Records the administration of medication on the Resident's medication sheet at the time the medication is given.
• Reports a drug admin. error or drug reaction to the RN/LPN.
• Takes and records vital signs upon admin. of meds. when required.
• Observes, follows and correctly performs manufacturer's recommendations for medication.
