Job Summary:

The Hiking Guide at Red Mountain Resort is responsible for leading guided hikes and outdoor excursions, ensuring guest safety, and providing an engaging and educational experience. Reporting to the Outdoor Recreation Manager, this role involves trail navigation, risk assessment, guest interaction, and outdoor education. The Hiking Guide must have strong knowledge of local trails, terrain, and environmental conservation practices while ensuring a memorable and enriching outdoor experience for resort guests.

Job Specifications:

Onsite: Red Mountain Resort Shift & Schedule Availability: Year-Round / Full-Time & Part-Time Available Pay Rate: $13.75 – 15.50/hr. This is the pay rate we reasonably expect to pay for this position. Individual compensation decisions are based on a variety of factors.

Responsibilities

• Lead guided hikes and outdoor excursions, ensuring guest safety, comfort, and enjoyment.
• Provide educational insights on local flora, fauna, geology, and cultural history.
• Conduct pre-hike safety briefings, ensuring guests understand trail difficulty, hydration needs, and environmental considerations.
• Assess and mitigate potential risks on trails, making adjustments as needed based on weather and terrain conditions.
• Carry and maintain first aid kits, responding to minor injuries or emergencies as needed.
• Ensure Leave No Trace principles are followed to maintain environmental integrity.
• Provide excellent guest service, fostering an engaging and welcoming atmosphere.
• Assist with transporting guests to trailheads using resort vehicles, ensuring proper safety procedures.
• Maintain and inspect hiking gear and equipment, reporting any maintenance or inventory needs.
• Support other outdoor recreation activities and wellness programs as assigned.
  
  

Qualifications

• Valid Utah driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (required for guest transportation).
• Completion of First Aid training within the first month of employment (CPR/AED preferred).
• Strong knowledge of local hiking trails, terrain, and outdoor navigation.
• Previous experience as a hiking guide, outdoor educator, or adventure leader preferred.
• Excellent communication and guest service skills, with a passion for outdoor adventure.
• Ability to hike long distances, navigate varied terrain, and carry a backpack with necessary gear.
• Comfortable working early mornings, weekends, and holidays based on tour schedules.
