SUMMARYProvides Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) leadership and consultation for large capital projects, ensuring that designs meet or exceed SHE regulatory requirements and company standards for Environment, Occupational Health & Safety, and Process Safety. Leads and assists in day-to-day SHE activities as needed. Provides technical expertise for the SHE team through knowledge of regulations and standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Collaborates with capital project teams to ensure designs are compliant with SHE regulations, consistent with internal SHE standards, and that SHE risks are mitigated. Specifically, reviews capital project designs to identify potential environmental and health & safety impacts. Consults with subject matter experts on the SHE team and works with design teams to mitigate risk and ensure installations support SHE standards for worker safety and environmental protection.
- Performs detailed review of EPA, OSHA, State and City SHE regulations, as well as codes and design standards, for applicability to new and existing installations.
- Provides day-to-day support to Operations and Development regarding SHE topics, at times requiring attention outside of normal business hours.
- Supports the SHE team with various compliance obligations as assigned, including monitoring, documentation, and reporting.
Provide guidance and leadership where appropriate.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Health, or related field is required. Five years experience in chemical plant process engineering/support functions is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in a pharmaceutical or fine chemicals manufacturing environment, including Safety, Industrial Hygiene, and Environmental responsibilities.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, regulatory and compliance documents. Ability to effectively present information to management and colleagues.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSCompetence in scientific mathematical skills and statistics, including metric analysis, trending, and reporting.
REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSNone required. A certified Safety Professional and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist will be given special consideration.

- Working knowledge of safety regulations and ability to apply regulatory letters of interpretation, in addition to other sound engineering practices consistent with recognized codes and standards. Ability to explain regulatory requirements and propose, defend, and implement cost-effective solutions
- Working knowledge of OSHA’s Process Safety Management program and its application to chemical manufacturing. Ideal candidate has experience implementing process safety into equipment and facility design.
- Working knowledge of applicable environmental regulations and treatment systems for waste, wastewater, and air emissions. Ability to assess capital projects and identify the most effective waste minimization and treatment solutions.
- Experience with application of construction safety principles is preferred.
- Ability to evaluate facility and equipment changes for impact to worker safety and identify design improvements to reduce ergonomic and other safety risks.

Actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.
