Director of Finance - Washington, DC

$200,000 - $225,000 total compensation with superb benefits and commuter allowance.

Our valued and renowned Nonprofit client located in Washington, DC is looking for its next Director of Finance.  This organization is staffed with the best and the brightest in their fields, and offer a reasonable quality of life balance to this individual.  


He/she will be responsible for all finance and accounting leadership and financial strategy. This role reports to the CEO, along with the EVP and could be groomed for future leadership opportunities.

This position is expected to be mostly in-office (3-4 days per week).  

The Director of Finance will partner and collaborate closely with stakeholders, senior management and the Board of Directors on a weekly basis. Exceptional professional skills are required, along with the willingness to support any and all staff members, stakeholders and scholars.  Our client is a research-focused public policy organization and is a national leader in developing new ideas and practical solutions to shape critical foreign and domestic policy decisions.

The Director of Finance will be responsible for all budget and forecasting, FP&A process and improvement, assisting with leadership of corporate policies, managing the annual audit, running all accounting and reporting, and all ERP decision-making.

Role Scope:


Finance
  • Develop and utilizes forward-looking, predictive models, and activity-based financial analyses 
  • Present financials monthly on both accrual and cash basis.
  • Manage cash flow analysis and profitability standards.
  • Manage banking and investment relationships.

Accounting 
  • Lead and direct accounting team of 2-3 staff
  • Oversees the preparation and communication of project financials for federal contracts and foundation grants
  • Oversee and monitor internal controls and financial procedures.
  • Coordinate audits and proper tax filings
  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance 

Audit, Investments, and Board of Trustees
  • Manage annual audit
  • Lead/partner with investments custodian and ensures reporting meets approval of senior management and the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.
  • Manage and plan audit and trustee committee meetings 

Management
  • Participates in corporate policy development as a member of the senior management team.
  • Run relationships with financial partners, including financial institutions, auditors, and public officials.
  • Remains current on nonprofit audit best practices and state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
  • 10-15  years’ experience in nonprofit/association finance and accounting, preferably with experience working in a nonprofit.
  • A CPA or an MBA is required
  • Commitment to acting with integrity and the utmost professionalism
  • Excellent partnership skills are essential; with, the ability to manage, direct and support all staff members and associates
  • He/she should offer outstanding attention-to-detail and a keen ability to work through challenges and support organization with financial solutions
