The Seasonal Head Kids Camp Counselor at Cordillera Ranch is a hands-on role that oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of youth camps aligned with the Boerne Independent School District’s Spring break and summer schedules. The Head Camp Counselor is expected to actively participate in all camp activities—whether in the pool, participating in equestrian activities, or in the field alongside campers—ensuring smooth operations, safety, and engagement across our various themed camps.
The role also includes managing administrative responsibilities, communicating effectively with parents, leading staff, and ensuring that all campers have completed the required Release of Liability, Acknowledgment, and Acceptance of Risk Waiver.
Administrative Leadership
- Organize and oversee the day-to-day operations for camps such as Ninja Camp, Junior Golf, Camp Little Rancher, All-Star Sports Camp, and Art Camp.
- Ensure every camper has a signed Release of Liability and Acceptance of Risk Waiver on file prior to participation.
- Manage camper registration, logistics, and compliance with club policies.
- Coordinate the purchase and preparation of supplies and equipment for each camp.
- Prepare shopping lists for needed supplies and ensure all items are returned to storage after camps conclude.
Program Management
- Actively participate in all camp activities, including swimming, horseback riding, outdoor games, and other hands-on experiences.
- Design and deliver engaging camp programs tailored to themes such as sports, arts, culinary skills, and outdoor adventures.
- Collaborate with department heads to align camp activities with club goals.
- Evaluate camp success and implement improvements for future sessions.
Parent and Camper Relations
- Serve as the primary contact for parents, providing updates and addressing concerns.
- Conduct phone and in person orientations to familiarize parents with camp schedules, policies, and expectations.
- Handle camper issues, including behavioral challenges, with professionalism and care.
Staff Oversight
- Train and supervise seasonal camp counselors and volunteers.
- Schedule and coordinate additional support from Kids Club Counselors as needed, with staff scheduled at least two weeks in advance.
- Provide guidance to staff to ensure quality and safety in all programs.
Safety and Compliance
- Enforce safety protocols to maintain a secure environment for campers and staff.
- Actively supervise and participate in high-energy activities such as swimming, running, hiking, and horseback riding.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incident reports, and liability waivers.
Event Coordination
- Organize special events, such as end-of-camp showcases or themed celebrations.
- Set up and break down camp equipment, ensuring proper storage and maintenance.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in camp coordination, youth programming, or event planning.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills for working with parents, staff, and children.
- Attention to detail for ensuring administrative and safety compliance.
- Ability to participate in high-energy activities, including running, hiking, and swimming.
- Capability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (required).
Job Type: Seasonal Full-time
This is a seasonal full-time position during camp seasons, requiring flexibility with early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on camp schedules.
