Typical Schedule: Up to 30 hours a week from March through October, shifts available every day of the week including holidays.
Summary DescriptionUnder direction of the Recreation Supervisor II, Senior Recreation Coordinator, and pool management, leads and participates in performing lifeguard services during public sessions and swim instruction classes; protects life, prevents accidents, and enforces pool regulations; responds appropriately in the event of an accident/emergency; performs a variety of daily maintenance assignments, such as hosing, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms; and performs related work as required.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsLifeguard II – Assistant Pool Manager is the second working level in the lifeguard series. This classification differs from Lifeguard I in that Lifeguards II serve as the in-charge guards and lead the work of Lifeguards I.

We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
- Assist in the supervision of aquatic staff during swim lessons and public swim; as necessary, observe swimmers and non-swimmers in the pool area from assigned station to identify and prevent unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
- Assist supervisors in conducting staff training throughout the spring and summer.
- Supervise patrons and participants in pool and deck area.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; renders care in the most current American Red Cross techniques in water safety, lifeguarding, first aid, and CPR/AED to person in need of assistance.
- Use strong customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact during the conduct of activities.
- Prepare detailed and complete written reports including accident and incident reports.
- Act as Department representative to local residents, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation programs and facility operations.
- Attend all trainings when provided.
- Assist in the general upkeep of pool and office area and surrounding facility including hosing, sweeping, and cleaning restrooms.
- Operate a point-of-sale system in order to accept monies for public swim and concession sales; make change; perform basic mathematical computations accurately; complete daily cash handling paperwork; account for daily revenue in registers and perform daily reconciliation of cash received.

- Comprehend and prepare reports and forms such as accident and incident reports and inventory lists; emergency, registration, and Hold Harmless forms and calendars.
- Assist with daily maintenance of the swimming facility.
- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
- Resolve problems promptly.
- Analyze and use independent judgment in problem solving fairly routine situations such as responding to customer or employee problems/complaints, supervising pool patron activities and events, caring for pool patrons with injuries and resolving conflicts between participants or staff to ensure safety and quality of programs.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Lead the work of assigned staff including assigning, reviewing, and planning work; providing clear instruction and guidance on a day to day basis.
Education and Experience Guidelines - Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Formal or informal education or training that ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
Two (2) seasons of experience in the aquatics field which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities required of a Lifeguard II – Assistant Pool Manager.
License or Certificate:
Required to hold current certification in Lifeguard Training (which includes Standard First Aid, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED).
Additional Requirements:
Department of Justice (DOJ) background check.
A clear tuberculosis screening is required.
Certification in First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) within three (3) months of employment required.
Certification in Emergency Oxygen within three (3) months of employment required. Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
