Who We Are
Established in 1958, Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD) is an independent special district governed by an elected Board of Directors.
We provide quality recreational programs, parks and services for our diverse and growing region. We currently operate over 50 parks and facilities across more than 600 acres of urban and open space. We also operate Cordova Golf Course which is a full-service 18-Hole course with a lighted driving range, pro-shop and lessons from PGA professionals. We host dozens of events throughout the year and provide athletic, educational and creative outlets for children and adults of all ages.

- Oversee programs and staff at District owned and operated swimming pool facilities including swim lessons, aquatic teams, recreation swim, lap swim, water aerobics and special events.
- Recommend and provide feedback to supervisory staff regarding hiring, training, evaluation, and discipline of subordinate staff; assist in the hiring process and training of lower-level staff as assigned; monitor behavior of assigned staff and program participants.
- Train assigned employees in a variety of safety procedures including Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen.
- Assist in planning and conducting staff meetings and trainings for aquatic staff including monthly in-service trainings, planned and random skills tests as well as in-pool assessments; attend meetings as necessary.
- Enforce rules and regulations of programs and facilities as mandated by District policies including in and around the pool, deck, locker rooms, and surrounding areas.
- Administer first aid and perform emergency procedures as needed.
- Provide a safe and clean environment with adequate supervision by implementing guidelines from District and department policies and procedures manuals.
- Provide courteous and professional service to all program participants, facility users, District personnel and the public.
- Direct lower-level staff in on-site communication with parents, participants and the public; discuss program concerns and participation issues; provide solutions when appropriate.
- Oversee and/or complete appropriate reports and forms as necessary.
- Conduct work tasks safely and in compliance with department safety standards and the District Injury and Illness Prevention Program.
- Perform opening and closing duties of a specific program or facility as necessary; report any accidents, incidents or potentially unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
- Implement and enforce cash handling procedures. Operate a point-of-sale system to accept monies for public swim and concession sales; make change; perform basic mathematical computations accurately; complete daily cash handling paperwork; account for daily revenue in registers and perform daily reconciliation of cash received.
- Oversee and/or perform general maintenance, including removing trash from the swimming pool, deck, locker rooms, floors, walls, storage, office, and other areas of the facility; recommend maintenance and improvements essential to the cleanliness of pool, deck areas and locker rooms.
- Ensure safety in the use and handling of pool chemicals with the proper use of PPE.
- Maintain program/facility supplies and equipment in accordance with policy.
- Provide assistance to supervisors and other staff as required.

- Basic operation of pool equipment including pool vacuum, ADA lift, and AED.
- Current methods and techniques used in preparing reports and forms, using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style.
- Basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, percentages, decimals ratios, and fractions.
- Principles and practices of general pool maintenance functions.
Ability to:
- Perform water rescues, CPR and first aid to the standard of Lifeguard Training.
- Perform effective surveillance of swimming zone.
- Remain calm in emergency situations.
- Maintain fitness level to perform duties of the job.
- Comprehend, utilize, and interpret a variety of reference books and manuals including personnel handbook, policy manual and American Red Cross textbooks, safety manual including technical medical terminology.
- Comprehend and prepare reports and forms such as accident and incident reports, inventory lists, emergency, registration, and Hold Harmless forms, and calendars using a prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.
- Lead the work of assigned staff including assigning, reviewing, and planning work, providing clear instruction and guidance on a day-to-day basis.
- Analyze and use independent judgment in problem solving routine situations such as responding to customer or employee problems/complaints, supervising pool patron activities and events, caring for pool patrons with injuries and resolving conflicts between participants or staff to ensure safety and quality of programs.
- Operate office equipment including computers and supporting word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
- Communicate clearly and concisely with tact, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Drive to Aquatic facilities throughout the District to check on staffing, pool conditions, and in case of an emergency.

Environment: Work is performed in and around pools and in standard office environment; exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions including hot, wet, and/or humid conditions; work at various locations throughout the District; may be required to work days, night, weekends and holidays.
Physical: Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in and around pools and in an office setting; to work outdoors in all types of weather and be able to withstand frequent exposure to hot, wet, and/or humid conditions; to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time; to frequently stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; use of standard office equipment; to attend off-site meetings; to enter and exit the pool to assist swimmers and demonstrate skills correctly; to frequently push, pull, lift, and/or carry objects up to 50 pounds or more; to make frequent decisions and maintain concentration with distractions and remain calm in emergency situations; frequent public and coworker contact; to move equipment and supplies at aquatic centers; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.
Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
