The Cordova Recreation & Park District (CRPD) is seeking friendly, customer-focused individuals to join our team as Scorekeepers and Field Monitors for adult softball leagues.
These roles are based primarily at the Mather Sports Complex, a premier regional sports facility with amenities for baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, racquetball, dance, cardio and weight training.
The Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and demonstrate strong customer service skills. Knowledge of adult and youth sports programs, cash handling, and basic computer skills is highly desired. Additional responsibilities include securing and arming the facility. Knowledge of softball and basketball is preferred.
Typical Schedule: This is a part-time position that requires availability four (4) out of five (5) weeknights from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., excluding Tuesdays. Ideal candidates are available Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings. This part-time role averages 10-25 hours per week (capped at 1,500 hours per fiscal year, from July 1 to June 30), though weekly hours may vary.
Summary Description
Under the guidance of a Recreation Coordinator, the Program Facilitator will handle scorekeeping duties and assist with our adult sports leagues. Key responsibilities include scorekeeping, opening and closing facilities, responding to patrons’ needs, and possessing a solid understanding of program activities and procedures. Facilitators collaborate with district staff, instructors, and patrons to ensure smooth and enjoyable recreational experiences.
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
When assigned as a Scorekeeper:
- Organize the setup and teardown of the playing field and necessary game equipment.
- Prepare score sheets and equipment for play.
- Keep game clock and operate digital scoreboard.
- Keep score of games; maintain knowledge of recreation and sports event rules and regulations.
- Retrieve and return game equipment to a secure location.
When assigned as a Facility Monitor:
- Acts as a liaison between District staff, customers, contractors, and participants; relays feedback to Recreation Coordinator.
- Enforce appropriate official rules and regulations of games; maintain knowledge of recreation and sports event rules and regulations.
- Locks and arms facility with correct and effective use of the intrusion alarm system.
- Receives and receipts payments for participant enrollment in recreation programs; maintains accurate records and writes reports.
- Sets up and prepares facility for recreational programing. Including but not limited to setting out bases, opening and closing gates, ensuring a clean and secure playing area.
- Post game scores to league website.
- Overall facility management while on duty including, but not limited to, opening and closing facility, greet and assist the public in person or by phone, answering inquiries related to department services, programs, or operations.
- Performs basic clerical tasks such as printing forms, running daily reports, and filing documents.
- Establish and maintain customer accounts; accurately process point of-sale transactions, activity registrations, and facility reservations using recreation software.
- Count and verify cash drawers and run cash distribution reports.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of programs at the Mather Sports Center; assists customers with registrations for classes, memberships, and other district offerings.
- Enforces District and facility rules and procedures including, but not limited to, program rules, field/facility use, care of equipment, and admittance to facilities.
- Promote and enforce safety procedures; render first aid and CPR, if certified, as required.
- Uses strong customer service and interpersonal skills during public contact during the conduct of activities.
- Acts as Department representative to local residents, community groups, private businesses, and others concerning questions, problems, concerns, and activities in the provision of recreation programs and facility operations.
- Acts as a liaison between District staff and instructors for class material such as rosters and evaluation forms; relays feedback to Recreation Coordinator from participants and instructors regarding District activities.
- Sets up and arranges chairs, tables and other furniture according to arrangement charts and plans or verbal directions.
- Safely utilizes equipment such as audio/visual/sound systems, computers and printers, exercise and sports equipment as necessary for recreation programming.
- Locks and arms facility with correct and effective use of the intrusion alarm system.
- Performs light janitorial work before and after recreation programs and empties all trash receptacles and stocks restrooms as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
