The Marine Superintendent is responsible for leading the engineering department in designing, developing, and delivering high-quality shipbuilding projects. This role ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, oversees engineering teams, and collaborates with cross-functional departments to drive innovation, efficiency, and technical excellence in ship construction and repair.
Marine Superintendent Responsibilities
Lead and manage the engineering department, including naval architects, marine engineers, and design teams.
Oversee the development of ship designs, systems integration, and engineering solutions for new builds, retrofits, and repairs.
Ensure all engineering work complies with NAVSEA standards, classification society regulations (ABS, DNV, USCG), and customer specifications.
Provide technical guidance on structural, mechanical, and electrical systems, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
Collaborate with estimating, production, and project management teams to support cost-effective design and construction solutions.
Drive innovation by implementing new technologies and improving engineering methodologies.
Develop and maintain engineering budgets, timelines, and resource allocation.
Lead problem-solving efforts for complex engineering challenges during ship construction and maintenance projects.
Represent the company in technical discussions with customers, regulatory bodies, and industry partners.
Mentor and develop engineering staff to build a high-performing team.
Marine Superintendent Position Requirements
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or maritime engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Strong knowledge of NAVSEA, ABS, DNV, and USCG regulations.
Experience with commercial and military ship programs is highly preferred.
Expertise in ship design, structural analysis, propulsion systems, and marine systems integration.
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and develop engineers.
Excellent project management and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, ShipConstructor, Rhino) and engineering analysis tools.
Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders, both technical and non-technical.
Strong financial and budget management skills related to engineering projects.
Marine Superintendent Preferred Position Requirements
Professional Engineer (PE) License in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification.
