This role is responsible for defining contract requirements, supporting a workforce of over 1,000 employees, managing department resources, and coordinating personnel to meet project commitments. The Chief Naval Architect will also take on leadership roles in bid and proposal development, ensuring engineering excellence and compliance with industry standards.
Chief Naval Architect Responsibilities
- Promote and enforce safety policies while adhering to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Determine resource needs to support business goals and maintain departmental capabilities.
- Develop and oversee training programs and standardized processes for the engineering team.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives and mentor engineering personnel.
- Manage recruitment, team development, and personnel decisions.
- Conduct and lead meetings with internal departments and external stakeholders to align business objectives.
- Provide performance reports to senior management and oversee department budgets.
- Ensure engineering deliverables align with production requirements.
- Manage and integrate technical activities in ship design and construction projects, including design changes and approval processes.
- Present proposals and technical reports to customers and negotiate project specifications.
- Actively participate in waterfront activities to support project execution.
- Uphold and promote Quality, Environmental, and Health & Safety policies.
- Directly manage up to 10 engineering personnel.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related technical field.
- Minimum of 7 years in Project Management, Systems Engineering, or Program Scheduling within the maritime or shipbuilding industry.
- Strong understanding of DoD 5000.1 & 5000.2 and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Rules and Guides.
- Proficiency in engineering project scheduling, root-cause analysis, and quality performance tracking.
- Experience developing engineering deliverables such as work packages, bills of materials (BOM), and technical reports.
- Excellent communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, MS Excel, MS Project, and Primavera P6.
