Structural Designer 3 Responsibilities
- Prepare and modify scantling drawings for marine vessels.
- Create detailed designs for marine craft structures, outfitting, and plans for new shipbuilding and repair/conversion.
- Utilize AutoCAD for 2D structural design and FORAN or Ship Constructor for 3D modeling.
- Prepare assembly drawings, profile plots, and nests.
- Extract views from 3D models to create 2D drawings.
- Prepare change documents driven by program, production, client, or engineering requirements.
- Collaborate with team members to provide solutions to complex structural and shipbuilding issues that arise in production.
- Coordinate closely with supervisors to meet project deadlines efficiently.
- Act as a mentor to junior designers (Designers I and II), providing guidance and support.
- May be responsible for leadership duties over design teams.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
- Associate degree in drafting, engineering technology, or a related field preferred, but not required.
- 5-10 years of experience in ship design or shipbuilding environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Adobe PDF.
- Experience in ship structural design and producing technical drawings.
- Familiarity with 3D modeling software and ability to learn new software as necessary.
- Ability to interpret various instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Experience with ABS/USCG rules is preferred but not mandatory.
