What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Design Engineer position at Core Home?
Core Home is one of the fastest growing companies in the housewares industry. We create options in all houseware categories with an eye for fashion and function. The team, in short, is a bunch of creative, product-loving people with too much passion and not enough time.
As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Engineer to help bring innovative technologies to our products. You will be working directly with our established team of talented Industrial Designers and product development specialists.
Starting as a contact position, we are hoping to grow this role into a full time position with great growth potential as we start to grow into exciting new categories.
Job Responsibilities
- Utilize creative thinking and dynamic problem solving to deliver innovative and unique solutions.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models and drawings for prototyping and production
- Prototype, test, and iterate mechanical designs and mechanism using rapid prototyping tools and hands-on assembly.
- Tear down, debug, and analyze consumer product appliances.
- Review supplier DFM to ensure products are suitable for production.
- Collaborate closely with Industrial Design, quality, and cross-functional teams.
- Analyze potential product failures by developing test plans, procedures, and conducting product testing. Iterate designs for reliability, durability, and usability based on findings.
- Evaluate materials and manufacturing processes for cost, quality, and performance trade-offs.
Requirements to apply:
- Bachelor’s or Masters degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline
- 3 years of mechanical design experience using of a variety of fabrication processes.
- 3 years of consumer product engineering experience demonstrating the ability to work on complex products with large multidisciplinary teams
- A solid understanding of engineering fundamentals [heat transfer, mechanics of materials, precision fabrication]
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and statistical tolerance analysis techniques
- Proficiency in Solidworks creating efficient assemblies and working with complex geometries
- Experience working collaboratively with Industrial Design, quality, and cross-functional teams
- Experience working through a full product lifecycle from design through launch.
- Experience in designing plastic injection molded parts
- Ability to create test plans and generate thorough test reports
- Hands-on experience with machine shop equipment, hand tools and fabrication processes
Nice to have:
- Direct experience in developing small countertop Kitchen Appliances and/or consumer electronics.
- Direct experience working in the houseware industry
- Experience communicating with overseas manufacturing
- Having spent time with manufacturers doing hands on troubleshooting
