The director of operational accounting will oversee the day to day accounting function for several key accounts within our operations area, including accounts receivable and claims funding. This role requires a detail-oriented leader with extensive experience in the insurance industry and a strong understanding of accounting principles. - Oversee operational accounting team, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation of accounts
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve process
- Monitor and analyze receivables aging reports, identifying any related financial impacts
- Coordinate with underwriting and claims departments to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure accurate invoicing.
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal controls.
- Provide regular reports and insights to senior management on receivables performance and trends.
- Lead and mentor team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in financial reporting and analysis.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address billing discrepancies and other receivables-related issues.
- Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with other departments, such as underwriting and claims, to ensure accurate invoicing and resolve issues.
- Experience with Excel (vlookup, pivot tables, macros)
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new concepts, processes and applications
- The ability to work with and analyze large quantities of data
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
