Job Summary:
The role of the Laboratory Technician – is to perform Sample receipt, sample handling, DNA/RNA Extractions and assist in maintenance of lab technical process under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager. Performs a variety of clinical laboratory test in the areas of Sample receipt and Sorting; Specimen Extraction, Laboratory maintenance Logs and assist in Inventory tracking.
Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):
- Receives samples; sort specimens for appropriate department and prepares samples for DNA/RNA Extraction: vaginal swabs , urine, GI and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures.
- Adhere strictly to safety procedures
- Perform DNA and RNA Extractions for Molecular testing
- Perform daily preventative maintenance, service, and file QC logs daily for lab instruments and equipment.
- Ensure that laboratory inventory is well-stocked and resourced.
- Keeps Inventory records according to established procedures
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities):
- Associate’s degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, medical technology, Students in MLT program or related field.
- Meets requirements for CLIA high complexity testing personnel.
- Effective communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and precision.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
- Strong teamwork skills.
- Excellent computer skills; proficient in Microsoft Office.
Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- At Least 6 months clinical laboratory experience, preferred.
- Experience with sample preparation and Specimen extraction for Molecular RT-PCR analysis, preferred.
- Data entry experience, preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Prolonged periods of sitting or standing at work station Area.
- Ability to lift up to 10-30 pounds on occasion.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
- Monday – Friday (Part time 9am to 2pm)
- Rotations on weekends when necessary
