Job Summary:

The Nurse Executive will lead and oversee all day-to-day operations of the Nursing/Health Services Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality addiction and psychiatric nursing care. This role is pivotal in providing comprehensive care for patients undergoing treatment for psychiatric problems, chemical dependency, substance use disorders, addiction recovery, mental health, and behavioral health. The Nurse Executive collaborates effectively with the facility leadership team to ensure the facility's overall success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and maintain the standards of nursing practices.
  • Assess the quality of care rendered and ensure the continuity of care for each client.
  • Initiate the development of policies and procedures governing nursing services, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Responsible for staff performance, recruitment, retention, and development within the nursing/health services department.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to enhance patient care and staff development.
  • Serve as a key member of the facility’s core management team, ensuring the effective integration of nursing services into overall operations.
  • Oversee nursing staffing levels on all shifts, incorporating staffing grids and flex-staffing techniques.
  • Collaborate with the Infection Control Nurse to implement infection control policies and procedures.
  • Supervise pharmacy and laboratory services within the facility.
  • Ensure the department's budgetary guidelines are maintained, monitoring expenditures in nursing supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Provide direct nursing services, including the ability to complete documents, administer medications, transcribe physician orders, and confer with medical personnel.
  • Demonstrate leadership in staff management, recruitment, selection, and disciplinary actions within the Nursing Department.
  • Implement safety programs and actively participate in reducing Worker's Compensation.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other clinical and ancillary services, promoting cost-effective use of resources.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement program within the Nursing Department.
  • Actively participate in committees related to patient safety, nursing policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Manage performance through rewards, recognition, coaching, and corrective action.
  • Provide staff management, including hiring, development, training, performance management, and effective communication.
  • Manage staffing and documentation standards for inpatient and outpatient MAT dosing clinics.
  • Manage the wound care unit/program.
  • Manage the ASAM programming guidelines for the nursing staff.

Physical and Mental Job Requirements:

  • Ability to exercise self-control in potentially volatile situations.
  • Flexibility to work amidst distractions and handle interruptions.
  • Physical capabilities, including the ability to lift, carry, and perform repetitive motions.
  • Visual acuity for administrative and clerical tasks, as well as observing patients.
  • Hearing capabilities to perceive detailed information through oral communication.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing. Master’s degree in psychiatric or mental health nursing preferred.
  • Current RN license.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification are required.
  • Five or more years of nursing experience.
  • 3-5 years of leadership experience in behavioral health or psychiatric nursing.
  • Three or more years of progressive managerial experience.
  • Three or more years of behavioral health experience.
  • 1 Year of Substance Use Disorder (SUDS) nursing management preferred.
  • Experience in training staff desired.
  • Possess comprehensive training and experience with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.
  • Proven experience in nursing leadership with a focus on addiction treatment.
  • Knowledge of Methadone treatment programs and compliance with DEA regulations related to substance use treatment.
  • Previous work experience in the state of Pennsylvania, with an understanding of state-specific challenges and regulations related to addiction treatment.
  • Familiarity with Community Behavioral Health (CBH) and previous experience collaborating with managed care organizations.
  • In-depth understanding of different levels of care in the context of addiction treatment.
  • Knowledge in both psychological and medical aspects of addiction treatment.
  • Involvement in the successful implementation of Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Proven ability to lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Wound care treatment experience.
