Coriell is hiring a Laboratory Technician II to join an active research laboratory (PI: Dr. Jian Huang) at the Coriell Institute for Medical Research.
Coriell seeks a highly motivated and organized individual to join The Huang Lab and assist in experimental animal model systems aimed at understanding genetic and molecular mechanisms regulating hematopoietic stem cells function. Specifically, the candidate will mainly carry out experiments in hematopoietic stem cell research through a combination of independent and team driven projects. This individual should be able to independently handle experiments or small research projects, requiring advanced knowledge and experience in a specific scientific area or discipline.
Primary responsibilities include but will not be limited to:
- Maintaining, collecting and preparing records of data as well as results for presentations, papers, etc.
- Performing data analysis using statistical software packages
- Ordering supplies within the laboratory
- Examining instrument malfunctions in the laboratory and assisting with their repair
- Applying molecular and cell biology approaches to animal studies using mouse model of bone marrow transplantation
- Maintaining a mouse colony, contributing experimentally to ongoing research projects and overseeing general laboratory operations and laboratory supplies
- Maintaining laboratory bacterial culture stocks, mammalian cell culture stocks, DNA Plasmid stocks
- Training students in research methods and procedures as needed
- Performing other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate must be proficient in mouse husbandry, PCR-based genotyping, cell culture, flow cytometry, as well as DNA, RNA, and protein isolation and detection techniques. Additionally, this candidate must excel in standard molecular biology techniques and assays and have skill sets in molecular cloning, cell culture, western blotting and PCR.
A Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Working knowledge of general principles in genetics and molecular biology, as well as accurate and timely record keeping, impeccable organization, and demonstrated interest in working in a laboratory setting is needed in order to excel in this role.
