About the Role
The Manager, Project Management Office (PMO) is a leadership role overseeing the Project Management team for the Utah City District Energy Utility (UCDEU). This position is responsible for leading the PMO team, managing the capital budget, and developing the annual capital planning process. While this role may occasionally involve direct project management, the primary focus is on ensuring successful delivery of all UCDEU capital projects, in alignment with processes outlined in the Infrastructure Agreement (IA).
The Manager will build strong relationships with the Master Developers construction team, state regulators, and the local construction community, fostering collaboration and accountability. As the UCDEU capital program expands, the Manager will also grow and develop the PMO team to meet organizational needs.
What Youll Do
- Oversee and develop the 5-year capital plan for UCDEU, providing strategic vision for the PMO and all capital programs.
- Set project priorities and ensure alignment with organizational objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Manage project capital expenditures, balancing budget, quality, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure accurate cost tracking, identifying and addressing variances promptly.
- Monitor and report on project status, including major issues and obstacles, with actionable recommendations.
- Coach and guide Senior Project Managers, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and Project Administrators, ensuring adherence to best practices and standards.
- Build and hire a skilled PMO team as the UCDEU capital program grows.
- Partner with internal departmentsincluding Business Development, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, and Financeto align project specifications, scope, costs, and timelines.
- Liaise with external stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, regulators, and government bodies, to optimize project delivery.
- Develop and standardize techniques, procedures, and delivery methods to improve efficiency and effectiveness of project management services.
- Maintain consistent specifications and methodologies across all service areas.
What You Bring
Education:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field required.
- Masters degree in an engineering field is an asset.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required or eligibility to join DOPL or similar professional organization.
Certifications:
- PMP and/or LEED certifications preferred.
Experience:
- At least five (5) years experience in project management, engineering, and construction, particularly within district energy systems utilizing renewable energy sources.
- Proven record of managing the design and construction of complex technical projects with diverse stakeholders and permitting requirements.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams of project management staff.
- Experience with utility financial modeling.
