Psychiatrist Job Description
About the Role:
A Psychiatrist is required to provide psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical or clinical services staff. The ideal candidate must be a graduate of medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency.
Responsibilities:
- Provide onsite psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for inmates referred by medical or clinical services staff.
- Provide psychiatric services for inpatients, including assessment, diagnosis, staffing, treatment planning, and regular review of all inmates assigned.
- Provide psychiatric services for inmates requiring regular follow-up and those needing transfer to Mental Health facilities.
- Act as a regular psychiatrist, participating in treatment programming and planning for the Mental Health Unit.
- Provide medication management to all inmates admitted to the Mental Health Unit.
- Approve admissions and discharges into the Mental Health Unit, sign and monitor treatment plans.
- Provide in-service education to Mental Health Unit staff as needed.
- Be available on a scheduled basis for the on-call needs of the Mental Health Unit.
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of medical school and have completed an appropriate psychiatric residency.
- Licensed to practice in the applicable state and certified by the Office of Mental Health to provide psychiatric services.
- Background check, security clearance, and drug screening are required.
