What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admission Specialist Intern position at Cornell College?
This position combines many areas that will offer support to the Office of Admission through acting as a tour guide, receptionist, phone team member, visit team member, and assistant to the financial aid office. This person will also be given special projects related to data analysis and assessment of admission strategies. The specialist position is also excellent training for an eventual career as an admission representative. The position can be adjusted to include things like interviewing prospective students, reading applications, assessing scholarships, working with a territory, and planning / attending various admission events.
- This position will / can potentially be combined with other offices / positions on campus, but cannot exceed a combined 40 hours weekly. This is an on-campus, in-person summer position with working dates of 5 / 12-8 / 22 / 25.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Supporting staff in multiple tasks that include, but not limited to : Providing tours to prospective students and families, answering phones, scheduling and tracking daily visits, telecounseling / contacting prospective students, data entry, as well as special projects. Special projects may include data analysis and assessment of specific admission strategies. Students will act as ambassadors for Cornell and will be involved in all parts of the recruitment process from initial outreach to scheduling of the experience to the visit day, greeting and possibly touring guests. These ambassadors of the college are responsible for acquainting prospective students and their families with Cornell College and the campus by touring families around campus as well as talking with prospective students on the phone. Students are encouraged to share their own experiences on campus.
Additional Job Qualifications
Must have strong oral communication skills, must be friendly and personable, understand the benefits of a liberal arts education, have ample knowledge of Cornell College, have a positive view of Cornell College, and project that attitude to prospective students. Must be able to keep confidentiality due to work within Admission and Financial Assistance. Must have strong general office and computer skills, be detail-oriented, reliable, efficient, conscientious and able to work with minimal supervision.
