What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Worker - Student Life position at Cornell College?
The Division of Student Life is seeking a student worker to assist their multiple offices including Residence Life, Ebersole Health and Wellbeing, New Student Orientation, Info Desk, Disability Services, Campus Safety, Student Activities, Intercultural Life, Chaplain, and Compliance. Responsibilities include data entry and clerical tasks, assisting visitors in the offices and on the phone, inventory counting, answering questions for new and returning students, and special projects. Excellent customer service skills are a must. On-campus summer housing is required and provided.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides desk and phone coverage for the Student Life office and the Info Desk
- Assists with camps, conferences, and events
- Helps with fall check-in including key inventories, and room preparation checks
- Completes computer work, copying, shredding, updating electronic posters, inventory and supply management, and other typical office duties
- Provides student feedback on developing initiatives
Work Relationships
Reports primarily to the Housing Facilities Coordinator and secondarily to the Coordinator of New Student Orientation and the Thomas Commons. Tasks may be assigned by other Directors and Coordinators on a rolling basis. Regular contact with students, staff, parents, and the general public.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Attention to detail is required. Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and the general public. Must be able to work independently with limited supervision. Office skills preferred. Ability to maintain confidentiality is a must and a Confidentiality Agreement must be signed and adhered to. Preferred familiarity with Canva, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace. Graphic design training is available. Weekend availability needed based on the event schedule. Knowledge of audio/visual equipment in the Thomas Commons; training is available. Ability to be able to lift up to 50 lbs preferred.

Compensation
The rate of pay is $11.25 per hour.
The position is scheduled to work on campus from May 15 - August 25, 2025.
