About the Role
The Cornell Cooperative Extension is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Environmental Leadership Program Director to lead their climate program. This individual will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative environmental programs in Dutchess County, providing leadership for broad, creative environmental initiatives.
This role involves program development, implementation, and administration, including grants management, marketing, evaluation, and applied research to address local and system-level issues. The successful candidate will work closely with Cornell faculty, staff, and partners to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate programs that address critical environmental concerns in the region.
As a subject matter expert, this individual will provide leadership on environmental issues, working with various stakeholders, including government officials, community groups, and Cornell University researchers. They will also supervise Climate & Environment Program staff, ensuring high-quality programming and effective communication with the public, community leaders, and other organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive environmental programs addressing local needs and priorities.
- Lead grant writing efforts to secure funding for program initiatives.
- Collaborate with Cornell faculty, staff, and partners to design and deliver innovative educational programs.
- Provide expertise on environmental issues, analyzing data, and communicating findings to diverse audiences.
- Serve as a liaison between the Association and external partners, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
Requirements
- Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
- At least four years of progressively responsible experience in environmental education, research, or management.
- Vast experience with local environmental topics, including climate change, water resources, natural resources, and youth environmental education.
- Strong knowledge of GIS principles and software, as well as online mapping applications.
- In-depth understanding of environmental policy, education, and research methodologies.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
