Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Columbia & Greene Counties Capital Region Welcome Center Taste NY Market promotes the region's local tourism industry, rich history, food, and beverages. The Market is a partnership between CCE of Columbia and Greene Counties, Cornell University, NYS Department of Agriculture and Markets, and the NYS Empire State Development Corporation.

The Taste NY Market Operations Coordinator works as part of a dynamic and flexible team, serving as a positive, proactive role model for staff and others. The Operations Coordinator manages inventory, ordering, and equipment needs, reduces shrink and waste, assists with local Taste NY vendor relationships, and provides oversight to the Market and its staff in absence of the manager.

This position is scheduled Wednesday through Sunday with two rotating weekends off per month.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or GED/High School Diploma plus 1 year of related experience. 

  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.

  • Ability to effectively assist in managing the Market, perform assigned responsibilities, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. 

  • Ability to constantly work flexible hours related to the Market schedule, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and during inclement weather.

  • Ability to meet the occasional travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with others.

  • Ability to use Point of Sale and inventory systems, QuickBooks, internet, and Microsoft Office Suite.

This position frequently maneuvers around the sales floor, stockroom, and office. This position frequently operates point of sale registers, computer systems, food preparation and other equipment. This position frequently lifts, moves and/or transports products, supplies and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with retail environments, managing vendor relationships, agriculture, and agri-tourism.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management – 45%

  • Assist with planning Market operations, inventory, events, and staffing needs.

  • Manage Market inventory, orders, shrink, and deliveries. Help reduce waste and overspending.

  • Train staff (food safety, equipment use, etc.).

  • Provide oversight of the Market and staff in the absence of the manager.

  • Quickly identify and report issues that arise. Offers solutions as needed. 

Coordination and Operation – 50%

  • Order and rotate products, food, beverages, inventory, update pricing, etc.

  • Coordinate TNY vendor applications and insurance processes. 

  • Regularly cover staff shifts (during staff shortages, call outs) as needed, perform Market Store Associate tasks.

  • Help coordinate and attend TNY events.

  • Deposit cash transactions to the bank including register deposits and vending machine deposits.

  • Work with finance staff on accounting requirements, reconciliation, invoices, documentation, etc.

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Professional Improvement – 5%

  • In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.

  • Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.

Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions

  • Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.

  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Position Details

This is a full-time (35 hours/week), nonexempt position.  Compensation paid in the range of $23.00 -$25.00 per hour. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
