The Opportunity

Are you passionate about assisting students and ensuring their academic success? The Department of Global Development has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Coordinator to join our esteemed institution. As a crucial member of our team, you will provide a full range of student services support

for approximately 40 graduate PhD students in the field of Development Sociology and 30 (and growing) MPS students in the Field of Global Development, working with the Director of Graduate Studies and the Director of the Masters in Professional Studies program.

Responsibilities for the Master’s in Professional Studies (MPS) program include :

Engaging with prospective students to guide them through admission requirements

Meticulously managing the admission process

Offering valuable advice to admitted students and faculty advisors on matters such as visa processes, policies, procedures, degree requirements, and course options

Organizing orientation sessions, coordinating new field member elections, and overseeing key events and activities related to the MPS program

Coordinating the duties and assignments of the MPS TA will be essential to the program's smooth functioning

Maintaining digital communications

Updating the MPS student handbook and website

Preparing important reports and student records

Establishing connections with the offices of the Peace Corps and the World Bank to foster beneficial collaborations

Responsibilities for the Ph.D. Graduate program include :

Coordinating the graduate admissions review process, a crucial task in selecting the best candidates for our esteemed program

Overseeing and coordinating department funding for graduate students, including the coordination of TA selection and appointment processes and the efficient handling of teaching and research assistantship appointments

Actively coordinate graduate student fellowship opportunities to support their academic pursuits

What We Need

We are looking for a team member who is dedicated, organized, proficient with technology, and experienced with managing spreadsheets / data. Additionally, you will :

Hold an Associate's Degree with at least 2-4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.

Have experience in and / or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.

Be knowledgeable of graduate school policies and procedures.

Have the proven aptitude to work in a multicultural environment is critical.

Be able to work both independently and collaboratively to support the efforts of the overall

team and department.

Have excellent computer skills including standard office systems : Outlook, Powerpoint, Adobe,

Microsoft Word, Excel and databases, e-mail, and Cornell’s web-based programs.

Have knowledge of current social media (e.g., Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn).

Display strong Customer Service skills.

Utilize excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills with the aptitude to prioritize multiple projects, demonstrate flexibility, adapt to changes and provide consistent and accurate information.

Provide high level of initiative to anticipate needs of program and fulfill program objectives with

general supervision.

Demonstrate computer skills and experience with report preparation and analysis.

Have the aptitude to independently coordinate programs and manage activities is essential.

Provide effective academic guidance to the department’s current and prospective

students.

Handle confidential information with discretion and integrity.

If you possess these experiences and skills this may be the role for you! There are a few other qualifications that we would view as incredibly helpful in this role, to include :

Master’s degree with 2-3 years of experience in student services. Expertise with Cornell

procedures and business systems including Bursar online system (processing online awards and

requesting item types), Workday, PeopleSoft, Tableau, and WebFin2.

Ability to enhance personal knowledge and skills to meet the changing demands of the position.

Familiarity with Cornell admission, student tracking, and grading systems.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Employees typically perform this role

remotely 1 day per week and on-campus 4 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

This position is based in Ithaca, New York. Employees who work remotely may receive

multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location.
